Obituary
Lynn (Marilyn) Mae Loper was born in Webster City, Iowa to parents Clifford and Alfrieda Loper on January 29, 1933. She was the third of four children, sister Mava, and brothers Mervyn and Merle. Lynn was residing in Laguna Nigel, CA when she was unexpectedly called home on August 20, 2017.
In her early life Lynn exhibited a sense of adventure that later led her to become a TWA flight attendant in the mid 1950’s and travel far beyond her Midwestern home. In this way she was exposed to the art and culture of such countries as France, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Cuba, and Haiti. However, by the mid 1960’s she was well into a new adventure as the loving mother of four small children.
Lynn was a devoted Christian and loved to worship God and had a thirst for heavenly things. She served as a Deacon at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA. for many years where she exercised the gift of hospitality with a warm heart. More recently she committed and endeared herself as a member of the vibrant community of faith at the South Shores Church in Dana Point/San Juan Capistrano, CA.
Lynn was known for her razor-sharp wit that was her signature throughout her life, and along with her radiant smile and classic beauty, she was a magnet to all in the room. According to her college yearbook she was: “Pretty to walk with, witty to talk with”. She had an impeccable sense of fashion, color and style. She loved palm trees and flamingos. Her favorite colors were pink and green.
Lynn lived in Southern California most of her life. She enjoyed the beauty of the surrounding nature, whether walking by the ocean, stargazing, or watching the birds and dragonflies in her own backyard. Her passion for life was reflected in her many talents and interests which included art and painting, music and dance, singing in the choir, writing (sometimes silly) songs, food and wine, reading voraciously, skeet shooting, stargazing, and being a fierce competitor in card and boardgames.
This short description only begins to paint the picture of the special woman who was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her beautiful spirit will be missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
Lynn is survived by her children, Annie McAuley, Grant McAuley and wife Virginia, Jill McAuley and husband Joshua Byrd, Lee McAuley-Hartsock and husband Larry Hartsock Jr., grandchildren Katelyn Gilson and husband Trevor, Casey Hartsock, Shawna Hartsock, and great-grandchild Keyton Gilson.
Mamsy, Mammy, Mommy, Meausere: .. we will look forward to reuniting in Heaven!
A final viewing/visitation will be held at the O’Connor Mortuary 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills CA 92653 from 9:00 – 10:30 am Saturday, September 16, 2017. A memorial service – at Lynn’s request “A Praise and Revival Service” – and reception will follow at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrew’s Rd, Newport Beach, CA 92663 beginning at 11:33 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deacon Fund of the South Shores Church, 32032 Del Obispo, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675.
