Obituary

Lucille Uribe Vargas Meyer of Laguna Woods, California, died at age 101 on January 15, 2025. Lucia Uribe was born in Montebello, California on December 13th, 1923 and was the second of eight children born to Erminio and Apolinar Uribe. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Alex Vargas, in 1943, with whom  she shared three children: Patricia, Charles and Dennis. Lucy was no stranger to heartbreak; she endured the loss of Alex, her three children, grandson Alex Hardeman, and four siblings in her lifetime. With the help of her strong faith and self-determination, she survived these hardships and continued to live life her way. As she moved into the next chapter of her life, she met and married Henry Meyer in 1991. Henry and Lucy shared their love for music, card games, their country, and family until his death in 2012.

Her happiest days were spent in Laguna Woods with Henry, reading in her recliner chair and volunteering at her beloved library. She maintained a generous heart until the end, dedicating her time to helping family and the Laguna Woods community. She leaves behind her sisters, stepsons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends who will long remember her for her strength, work ethic, and bravery. Services will be held on Saturday, January 25th at La Purisima Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.

  1. Lucille Vargas Meyer; In celebration

From the Meyer Family with 32 years of loving memories.

The Fact that Lucielle was the Matriarch of this family is an understatement.

While we know she lived through much adversity but through her tenacity, spirit, strong faith; she was positive and fun to be around.

While both Lucille and Henry both had their spouses pass away, they meet up in very loving way. For them to have been married to their first spouses a good length of time, and to have a loving fun marriage and for additional 20 years speaks to them as part of a Great Faithful Generation. They traveled much and danced often.

These past 12 years since Henry passed away, Lucille has kept up with the Meyer Clan as a parent, grandparent, great grandparent and great-great -great grandparent. She was sharp and asked about all of them by name and what was happening in their lives! She even knew the grandchildren that were born after Henry’s passing.

So, for the Meyer Clan to be connected to the Vargas Clan has truly been a blessing
To have Lucille in our family lives for 32 years has been wonderful. My daughters even have some of Lucille’s recipes.

In this celebration of Lucille’s life, I want to note three versus, from the Old Testament from Ecclesiastes, chapter 3 “A Time for Everything, written by King Solomon, which epitomizes Lucille !
VS. 1) There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens
VS. 2) a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
VS. 4) a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
And I believe that tonight, they are able to dance the night away!!!
