Louise Rahmann Obituary

Louise Rahmann, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Irvine, California on September 4, 2021.  She is survived by her husband of 61 years Calvin; son Kevin and his wife Teri; daughter Karen Ortega and her husband Daniel Ortega; son Steven and his wife Hilda; granddaughters Julia and Natalya Rahmann; grandsons Cody and Taylor Rahmann and Daniel Adam Ortega; great grandson Andre’ Ortega; and great granddaughters Bailey, Daisy, and Sophie Rahmann.  Louise was preceded in death by her grandson Christopher Ortega.

Louise was born on June 19, 1939 in Northfield, Minnesota.  After graduating from Northfield High School in 1957, she began her over 50 year career as a nurse after attending and graduating from the Ancker Hospital School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1960.  She later earned a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from California State University, Dominguez Hills.  Among the honors Louise received for her passion as a nurse and diabetes educator include Nurse of the Year at both Scripps Memorial Hospital and Sharp Memorial Hospital of San Diego, as well as at Desert Oasis Healthcare in Palm Springs.

Louise was a kind, loving, and incredibly hard working woman with a wonderful ability to always brighten people’s days.  She lived a rich and active life.  When she was younger, she enjoyed backpacking and skiing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  She loved to walk daily and especially enjoyed walking on the beach.  She always kept a positive attitude despite any obstacles life threw in her path.  She was comforted in death by her strong faith in the Lord.  Louise touched many lives and will be dearly missed.

Her family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association at Diabetes.org or the Arthritis Foundation at Arthritis.org.

A “Celebration of Life” for Louise will be held on September 30th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the Garden Terrace at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar located at 15575 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar. The “Celebration of Life” will include dinner. All friends and family of Louise are welcome. Please send an email or text to one of Louise’s children or to Cal or Louise’s pre-existing emails to receive an invitation via evite.

Preceding the “Celebration of Life”, a family memorial service will be held on September 30th at 2:30 PM at the Miramar Veterans cemetery. This has limited space due to restrictions in place at the cemetery.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Aunt Louise. She was such a kind and caring woman. I’ll never forget the fun times, sliding down your basement stairs on blankets as little kids in MN, staying at the San Diego house and visiting Palm Springs. She was always a gracious hostess no matter how busy she was.
She will be missed by so many but the wonderful memories and calming words she had for us will be forever in our minds.
Our love to all of you at this sad time, I wish there were not so many miles between us.
    Love you all,
    Lori and Craig Rother
