Obituary

It is with great sadness that the Ouellette family announces the passing of Lorna Ouellette, originally of Lancashire, England and more recently a resident of San Clemente, CA. She left us on April 7, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Lorna, like her recently deceased husband Robert (Ro), was a member of the “Greatest Generation,” and a WWII Veteran. At age 17, she enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, which was of vital importance during the Battle of Britain. During the War, she was stationed at Topcliffe Air Force Base in Yorkshire, England, where she met and married Ro, who was serving in the Royal Canadian Army & Air Force. A few years after the War ended, Lorna and their first child Lorna Joan, sailed from England on the Queen Mary rejoining her husband in Canada. It was in Canada that their son Robert was born.

In 1952 Lorna and her husband moved their young, growing family from Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Southern California, where their 3rd child Kim was born. Lorna who, prior to the War, had been a member of England’s Olympic swimming team, was instrumental in forming the first competitive swim team for girls in the Long Beach area. She fostered her ever-present competitive spirit and integrity in each of her three children. Lorna dearly loved her family, most especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for her love of sailing, flowers, hummingbirds, car racing, dancing and practical jokes. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, sense of humor and kind heart.

At the time of her passing, Lorna was surrounded by her loving family and is survived by her three children Lorna, Bob & Kim, six grandchildren: Wendy, Justin, Brady, Erin, Heather & Brittany. She leaves four great-grandchildren: Bryndan, Evan, Guillermo & Madison Lynn, and also her daughter-in-law Judi & sons-in-law John Sorich and Devin Sanders.

We extend our sincere, enduring gratitude to the Doctors and ICU Nursing Staff of Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in San Clemente for the incredible care and kindness extended to our Mother & family.

  1. Kim, You are so blessed to have such a wonderful Mom. Grammy was just the best! She always looked so beautiful and had such a great smile. It was always so fun to be around your family with your Mom and Dad and watch all the pranks and jokes you did! Grammy will be missed alot. I have peace knowing that I will one day see Grammy and Poppy again in Heaven. Love you Kimmy!…..Donna

I miss our early morning and late at night phone calls. I miss telling you about all the silly things the zoo does each day. I miss the great back scratches you used to give us all. I miss a lot of our silly laughing over stupid stuff, but mostly I miss having a “Mom”. You have shown such courage the last 4 years, and unless you knew what was happening no one would ever have an idea of all that you have faced. You are the bravest person I have ever know. Love you lots Mom. Hey if you run into Dad give him a wet-willy and tell him I love and miss him too.

Kim, I just read about your moms passing in the paper. I live in San Clemente too. I am so sorry for your loss. Susie (Hazzard) Toucey

  5. Terri Moody says:

Kim, your mom was the easiest person to talk to. Her smile was so warm and she would just laugh when she shared stories of you and the kids when we sat by the pool or in the living room. Mom’s are special and we should be so grateful our children were able to grow up with them in their lives. The memories that they will share over the years will keep her spirit alive and in time bring a smile back to your face when you listen to the stories. The latest one being at the Christmas party when I brought that disaster of a dish and when Dana went to take one Lorna quietly shook her head no as to warn her they weren’t so good. Dana and I cracked up. Dana said she was so cute the way she did it. She had a beautiful soul. She will be missed……Terri
