Loris Kathryn Loper
Loris Loper passed away October 13, 2016 at the age of 75 in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Loris Kathryn Budd was born on January 28, 1941 to Reed Morse Budd and Mabel Kathryn Taylor in Fennimore, Wisconsin. She graduated from Barneveld High School in 1959 and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin Madison the following Fall on a scholarship. After her first year at UW Madison, she married Daniel C. Loper and put her studies on hold as she raised three children and worked during the early years to help make ends meet. Determined to continue her education she returned to the classroom and received her BA in Psychology from UC Riverside in 1975, an MA in General Psychology from Pepperdine in 1982, and a MPH in Health Administration from Loma Linda University in 1990; all while raising her three daughters in Riverside, CA. In 1998 she moved to Corona del Mar, CA where her love of the sea blossomed.
Lori, as she was known to many, had a heart for those in need, especially children. As a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist she worked as a Mediator at San Bernardino Family Court Services, served as the Director of the Psychiatric Intensive Treatment Program at Sierra Vista in San Bernardino, CA, had her own private practice as a Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist in Riverside, CA, and helped many as a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Counselor at Kaiser in Orange, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older, infant brother Dayle Budd. She is survived by her daughters Michelle (Thomas) Rhodes, Rachel Daniel, and Christine (Jeffry) Brusseau as well as her seven grandchildren whom she adored: Matthew, Taylor, and Ashley Rhodes, Jasmine and Amber Daniel, and Mason and Dalton Brusseau. She is also survived by her nine siblings: Donna (Kelly) Lehr, Eugene (Linda) Budd, Dennis (Sharon) Budd, Faye Sullivan, Donald (Corinne) Budd, LaVon (Phil) Koenig, Joyce (Ron) Fargo, Bruce (Sheila) Budd, and Dean Budd, as well as by a multitude of nephews and nieces.
A woman of quiet strength, Lori will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and those she served in therapy. Her legacy and love will be carried on through the lives she touched.
There will be a celebration of life gathering Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the Legion Hall in Barneveld, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mariners Church Irvine in the Chapel.
There will be a memorial reception immediately following the service (i.e. from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm) at:

Their dress code states: no shorts, cut-offs, flip flops. Denim jeans must be tasteful and in good condition. Men must wear collared shirts.

My deepest symphathy to all of Lori’s family….This is so sad, I tear up every time I think of her…Lori was always there, kind of like we were attached at the hip when we were very young…we had a lot of good times and a lot of great memories. Lori seemed to always have a smile for everyone..My husband Gene always liked Lori and hope they can get together and share some memories up there…Till we meet again Lori, I love you and miss you. My name is Tristan Oliver and Lori Loper was in effect, a stepmother to me and my younger brother Lachlan beginning when we were eleven and nine years old.
I am not exaggerating when I say that Lori’s arrival into my life was a lifeline and her presence was the safe harbour I so desperately needed. She exemplified love, kindness, patience, understanding, empathy and most of all, unconditional love. With time comes an appreciation for the influences that have shaped us. I am certainly a better man because of Lori’s influence in my life, and I will forever be grateful for her friendship and commitment to my wellbeing.
I distinctly remember having the frequent choice to ride home with her via Victoria Avenue or with my father via the 91 freeway. I preferred to be with Lori. She loved the slower drive through the rows of eucalyptus trees, roses and surrounding orange groves that characterized Victoria Avenue. I can remember her smiling up at the sunlight shining through the canopy down upon us as we stopped at each intersection and slowly continued onwards to our destination. It was truly all about the journey and being in the present moment for her. She would ask me about what was going on in my life, offer help if I wanted it, quietly share the moment with me in comfortable stretches of non-verbal grace, point out the positives and beauty in life and laugh at and accept the difficulties which seemed to effectively render them smaller.
Lori was extremely generous with her emotional availability, listening, and time. As I grew older I began to understand that her strengths had deep currents. She taught me that unconditional love prevails despite the challenges. To me this is her legacy, and I choose to honour her by practicing these values each slow, deliberate, beautiful day of my life’s journey.
