Loris Kathryn Loper

Loris Loper passed away October 13, 2016 at the age of 75 in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Loris Kathryn Budd was born on January 28, 1941 to Reed Morse Budd and Mabel Kathryn Taylor in Fennimore, Wisconsin. She graduated from Barneveld High School in 1959 and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin Madison the following Fall on a scholarship. After her first year at UW Madison, she married Daniel C. Loper and put her studies on hold as she raised three children and worked during the early years to help make ends meet. Determined to continue her education she returned to the classroom and received her BA in Psychology from UC Riverside in 1975, an MA in General Psychology from Pepperdine in 1982, and a MPH in Health Administration from Loma Linda University in 1990; all while raising her three daughters in Riverside, CA. In 1998 she moved to Corona del Mar, CA where her love of the sea blossomed.

Lori, as she was known to many, had a heart for those in need, especially children. As a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist she worked as a Mediator at San Bernardino Family Court Services, served as the Director of the Psychiatric Intensive Treatment Program at Sierra Vista in San Bernardino, CA, had her own private practice as a Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist in Riverside, CA, and helped many as a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Counselor at Kaiser in Orange, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and older, infant brother Dayle Budd. She is survived by her daughters Michelle (Thomas) Rhodes, Rachel Daniel, and Christine (Jeffry) Brusseau as well as her seven grandchildren whom she adored: Matthew, Taylor, and Ashley Rhodes, Jasmine and Amber Daniel, and Mason and Dalton Brusseau. She is also survived by her nine siblings: Donna (Kelly) Lehr, Eugene (Linda) Budd, Dennis (Sharon) Budd, Faye Sullivan, Donald (Corinne) Budd, LaVon (Phil) Koenig, Joyce (Ron) Fargo, Bruce (Sheila) Budd, and Dean Budd, as well as by a multitude of nephews and nieces.

A woman of quiet strength, Lori will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and those she served in therapy. Her legacy and love will be carried on through the lives she touched.

There will be a celebration of life gathering Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the Legion Hall in Barneveld, Wisconsin.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mariners Church Irvine in the Chapel.

  1. Our heartfelt sympathy to Lori’s family. Lori often told scary stories to us when we were little. Like the one about the “red moon.” We miss her.

  4. Joyce Fargo says:

Our deepest sympathy to Lori’s daughters and their families. This journey they had with their Mom could not have been an easy one.

I have a memory of Lori reading books at bedtime to us when we were young, the one that comes to mind is, Little Women, so whenever I see that movie or that book I think of her.

She was also a very caring person and would call on our birthdays instead of sending cards as she wanted to see how we and our families were doing.

May you rest in peace Lori.

We love you, Joyce, Ron and family

  5. Donna Lehr says:

Our condolences go out to the families of Lori. We can appreciate their feelings in this time of grief.

Lori was a tremendous sister to Donna and was very supportive of us in our time of need when Katheen passed on. So we understand where they are at this time of grieving.

Donna often talks about Lori and Faye as young girls holding hands and walking along. Lori would say “come on sissy”. I cant count the number of times Donna has made mentioned of that memory of Lori and Faye..

    God bless Lori.
