Obituary

Cherished mother Linda Ellen Johnson passed peacefully on August 26th, 2020, with family at her side. Born in 1933, Linda grew up in San Diego, California. Wed to beloved husband Art E. Johnson for 54 happy years, she was widowed in 2014. She is survived by her six children: Melinda Cohen, Susan LeFrancois, Allen Millikan, Laura Yackley, Arthur Johnson and Julie Helzer. She and Art were blessed with thirteen beautiful grandchildren (one of whom was waiting to greet her in Heaven). Linda is also survived by her lifelong friend of 82 years, Winifred Fleming of San Diego. In Life she was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, cousin and friend. She was an avid gardener who tended a thriving garden for years in her backyard. Her lemons and tomatoes were legendary. Linda had the gift of making all feel loved and welcome and, of course, well fed! She will be remembered for the unconditional love and support she lavished on her family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to Thomas House Temporary Shelter of Garden Grove, California [thomashouseshelter.org] where Linda volunteered as an interpreter helping those in need.

A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be postponed until 2021 and be announced as soon as the date is known.

Linda was the first one to welcome us into the neighborhood in August 50 years ago. We spent many hours together discussing the neighborhood, our families and the world. I missed her when she left our neighborhood and I miss her now that she is no longer with us. May you rest in peace my dear neighbor my friend.

  2. I have no way to think of Linda other than Art&Linda. Always fun. Always gracious. Always hospitable. Always kind. A pair of consistently bright spots in my life, always in close orbit around each other, yet welcoming and warming the cousin comets (like me) who would swoop in from time to time. Separated briefly, but now together again. With Jesus. This time forever. It’s a happy thought.

  3. We are blessed. Mom, your life was an example of how to treat others. When I was sick or sad you were there to comfort me. Your strength showed me how to have strength and know…”With God all things are possible.” During some of my darkest days your love was the foundation that taught me how to be a loving & caring mom. Thank you for saying my name in February. It was such a gift. You have joined the angels mom. Now you will be forever in our hearts and minds. May God keep you and make his face to shine upon you. We love you. Laura

  4. Cousin Linda was a shining star! She always greeted you with love and kindness and you never left her home hungry. She had such a soft and warm demeanor. You could sit for hours and talk over a cup of tea and dessert. She loved family and had many fun family gatherings. When I was single with Justin and Shane I had a bad incident when my car engine blew up on the freeway. Who came to my rescue – none other than Art and Linda. They saved me and helped me out immensely. No matter what, they were there for you. We visited often when we lived in California and it was hard when we moved to Georgia and could not visit like before. We kept in touch with phone calls and cards. In her final days, it was so great to see her care was the best and I so appreciate Melinda letting me talk to her mom only a few days before she passed and that she was able to read my final letter to her. Cousin Linda was the sweetest cousin ever and is now in the hands of our Lord and her family that has passed before her. She will always be in our hearts. Vaya con dios! Love, Rose Marie
