Obituary

Lillian Grace Fox, “Lily”, passed away at the young age of 16, on May 15th, 2023.  Lily’s death was sudden and accidental.

Lily had a gift for making people laugh, even when she was a toddler.  Her family would often call her “Silly Lily”.  She and her sisters would laugh for hours on end.  She filled the house with a playful energy and made one want to slow down and live in the moment.

Her internal joy, as a young child, was infectious.  Lily was always singing and dancing.  It was amazing how she knew the words to every song, even after hearing it only a few times.  Her voice was just beautiful.

Lily was naturally artistic and creative.  She saw even the “regular things” in life in a creative way.  She loved to draw and paint.  She was an incredible writer with a natural gift of expression.  She could use words in a way that was well beyond her years.

Lily had a HUGE loving heart.  She naturally wanted to help others.

Lily loved nature and animals. And she loved bugs! Often bringing them in the house.  Being out in nature is where she was happiest.  She never minded getting dirty.  She talked about nature a lot in her writings. Most everything she drew or painted was of nature.  All animals naturally loved Lily.  She would gravitate toward them, and they to her.  She often said that her brain was “so busy all the time” and that being in nature, or with animals, made her feel peaceful.

The vast majority of Lilys life, she was such a joyful kid.  Always smiling.  Continuously looking to find a way to make others laugh.  Always looking to play a joke on someone.  Constantly finding ways to be creative. Later in Lily’s life, as the pandemic shut down the world and we were all stuck at home, Lily began to depend on her phone for social interaction and to avoid boredom.  As Lily became more and more dependent on her phone, an obsession with social media rooted itself, and she started to struggle with depression and never feeling good enough.  Those negative feelings deepened, she began to hang out with different groups of kids, which eventually led to her self-medicating with marijuana.  Marijuana progressed to experimenting with other substances that would numb her negative feelings. A substance which, unknown to Lily, ended up being laced with deadly fentanyl.  This ultimately and tragically ended her life.

Lily had plans for a beautiful life.  She talked about them all the time.  Lily wanted to live.  Lily did not plan on leaving this earth any time soon.

Lily will be missed and never forgotten by her two sisters, Lindsey and Lauren, her parents, Tami and James, and her loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She was loved by so many. It was impossible not to love her.  She radiated love.

A service to honor Lily’s life will be held at O’Connor Mortuary, Laguna Hills at 10:00am on June 5th, 2023. Following Lily’s service, at 12:30pm, she will be laid to rest at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest.  Ascension Cemetery is very close to her childhood home, where she lived some of her happiest years. Although Lily loved them, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a Fentanyl awareness organization like the Alexander Neville Foundation.
