Leonor
Lankester
January 28, 1919 – December 18, 2019
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Friend. Leonor Lankester brought joy to all who knew her. Leonor had a zest for life that included learning to water ski at 45 years old and driving through Mexico and Central America to Costa Rica.
As a mother to her young children, Leonor embraced the camping spirit and introduced her children to the magic of California and Baja California with a station wagon and boat packed with military precision. She then delighted everyone's palate with campfire cooking that presaged "glamping."
She was always there for her children, when young and in adulthood. Always there to assist in time of crisis.
As a grandmother, she made all her grand kids feel loved. She was very proud of each and everyone. Whether it was a kiss or a laugh and her "que barbaridad!" she was always there with love.
Leonor was also a kind and steadfast caregiver to her family over the years. She brought both her aging mother and ailing sister into her home and cared for them. When her son John had kidney surgery as a boy of twelve, Leonor gave him constant care and watched over him night and day. As her husband aged and needed more care, Leonor once again saw to it that he was well cared for up until the end.
As she herself aged, she needed all the care she had given others. Despite suffering a stroke and losing the use of the right side of her body, she danced, she sang, she taught herself French, she loved watching ice skaters and classic movies.
Having survived over a 100 years and a lifetime of amazing experiences, Leonor will be missed by three generations of family and friends of all ages. Her love and spirit will live on in each of us who loved her and learned from her.
