LEONA ROSE MURRAY SCHMIDT

Leona Schmidt, of Mission Viejo, CA, passed away quietly on Monday, February 10, 2014 at her home. Her passing followed several months of in-home Hospice.

She was born Leona Rose Murray in Junction City, KS, 3 September, 1933. She grew up in Wichita, KS attending Catholic grade and high schools.

She married Lt Darrell Schmidt in the McConnell Air Force Base chapel, 11 April 1959, and they had 2 children, Darrell Jr. and Roxanne.

Leona was a stay at home mother since her husband was gone frequently as a Strategic Air Command pilot. After Air Force retirement they moved to Southern California.

Leona earned her BA at University of California, Irvine in 1988, majoring in Social Ecology-Victim Witness. She did volunteer work for the Orange County courthouse assisting victims.

She is survived by her husband, Darrell, her brother, Bernard Murray, her children, Darrell Jr. and daughter Roxanne Elliot, daughter-in-law Marlyn, granddaughter Darlyn and grandchildren-in-law Aimee and Jayvee.

A memorial service will be held at O'Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA, 17 February, 2014. Memorial donations may be made in Leona's name to the Salvation Army.
