Obituary
Filbeck, Leon Douglas, age 63, of Lake Forest, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2013 after a courageous eleven year battle with leukemia.
Leon was born in Santa Ana, CA on November 10, 1949. He was a graduate of Santa Ana Valley High in 1967 and received a bachelors of arts at Cal State Fullerton.
Leon played minor league baseball with the Cleveland Indians from 1968-1972. He was an avid fisherman, award-winning homebrewer and master barbecuer. His passion was life, his family and his many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 42 yrs., Nannette; his son, Ryan and two daughters Amber Hoyem (husband Shaun) and Andrea Johnson (husband Ryan); his two grandsons Ty and Trent Hoyem; granddaughter Reese Johnson; sister Janet Filbeck; and brothers David and Tommy Filbeck.
The graveside service celebrating his life will be held at El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Rd, Lake Forest, 92630 on Friday, May 3 at 11:00 AM, to which family and friends are invited to attend. Leon will be forever loved and missed.

When telling my friends 3000 miles away about the greatest father-in-law a guy could ever hope for, this was their response…”wait, hold on, what do you mean he brews his own beer?” My response was…”wait till you taste his BBQ at the rehearsal dinner.” Leon was always there when I needed him. He will be missed, but I am so thankful for the 7 years I was able to get to know him. Ryan Johnson

Leon was warm, funny, caring, and a loving family man, that will be missed dearly. Always ready to entertain whenever we would come to California…..so many wonderful memories of times spent at Leon and Nannette’s home. Ryan was welcomed into the family fold and loved very much, and we will be eternally grateful. Thoughts and prayers and love to all. Sandy Johnson
