Obituary

Leland Phelps passed away November 11, 2013 at the age of 52, in the presence of his family as a result of severe injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Leland was born February 14, 1961 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Following a term of service in the Navy, Lee settled in Southern California and began a career as a car salesman-a career that brought him great fulfillment. Lee spent time at various dealerships throughout Southern California, most recently as a well-loved and highly successful salesman for South Bay Mercedes Benz.

Lee was recently married this past July to his beloved Ivonne Bravo Phelps and was joyously happy as husband to Ivy and father to Ivy’s three children, Anthony, Sky and London, who he loved dearly.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Edson Herbert Phelps, and is survived by his mother, Marjorie Schmidt Phelps, his sisters, Linda Morales and Lisa Davis Flores, nephew Stanton Kane Morales, and nieces Stephanie Davis and Megan Davis.

A service to celebrate Lee’s life will be held Saturday, November 23 at 11 AM at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in San Juan Capistrano (31641 La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano). The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lee’s life may be sent to provide a Phelps Family College Fund. Checks should be written to Ivonne Bravo Phelps, with the notation: College Fund, and mailed to: Linda Morales, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 31641 La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675.

  1. I Just called Mercedes today and found out Lee had passed. I agree completely that Mercedes should not only of notified clients but gave them the opportunity to pay their respects to such an honorable man! I leased 5 different times with Lee. He was not just a salesman, he was a friend. I will miss him and will not do business with this dealership after my lease ends.

  2. Lee says:

Agreed……I have bought several cars from Lee from 2005 – 2012. He had been on my mind and I called him last week to find out that he had passed. I was so devastated that I teared up….I last saw him in August 2012 when he sold me my last benz. I have several pictures I had the other salesmen take before I pulled off driving my new car that day with me and Lee with thumbs up…now I will cherish…I was so angry with the dealership not notifying his clients about his passing so that we could pay our tribute and condolences to the family. He will be missed….I will miss our sarcastic negotiations and I will not only miss the best salesmen but a friend……and that we shared the same name……”Lee” that is what made our friendship even nicer……God Bless You……your friend…..Ms. Lee

I’m really sorry to hear about Lee. I didn’t know him well, but he was a genuinely nice guy! He sold my wife and I our last car a few years ago, and during our first conversation we chatted a bit about the fact that we were both from Pennsylvania. When I first talked to him on the phone he asked if I was from the Pittsburgh area – he could still tell from my slight accent. I’m sorry for your loss and condolences to the family.

  4. Even though it has been some time I felt the need to share something about Lee. I bought my first expensive car from him. I felt so proud as he handed me the keys. He made buying cars so easy and fun. I recently called the dealership and learned of his passing. I am so sorry he is gone. He was a true salesman and a friend. Rest in peace.

  5. I feel the same way about clients being notified. And I have to say that there is not anyone close tk Lee’s talent at Mercedes South Ba h.
