Obituary

Leland Phelps passed away November 11, 2013 at the age of 52, in the presence of his family as a result of severe injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Leland was born February 14, 1961 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Following a term of service in the Navy, Lee settled in Southern California and began a career as a car salesman-a career that brought him great fulfillment. Lee spent time at various dealerships throughout Southern California, most recently as a well-loved and highly successful salesman for South Bay Mercedes Benz.

Lee was recently married this past July to his beloved Ivonne Bravo Phelps and was joyously happy as husband to Ivy and father to Ivy’s three children, Anthony, Sky and London, who he loved dearly.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Edson Herbert Phelps, and is survived by his mother, Marjorie Schmidt Phelps, his sisters, Linda Morales and Lisa Davis Flores, nephew Stanton Kane Morales, and nieces Stephanie Davis and Megan Davis.

A service to celebrate Lee’s life will be held Saturday, November 23 at 11 AM at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in San Juan Capistrano (31641 La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano). The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lee’s life may be sent to provide a Phelps Family College Fund. Checks should be written to Ivonne Bravo Phelps, with the notation: College Fund, and mailed to: Linda Morales, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 31641 La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675.

We just found out the same way. We called Lee to wish him a Merry Christmas and then Happy New Year and never heard back. That was not like Lee not to call back. Then we went into Mercedes just to be told what happened. We are devastated. Lee was the most amazing, strong man that overcame so much to finally find happiness. We loved his smile. My kids loved going to visit him. He was a genuine no BS guy. We wish Mercedes would have emailed his clients with the sad news so that we could have paid our respects. We love you Lee and we will miss you. God bless you and your family. Our hearts are broken.

  4. I am so sad to just find this out, Leland was like a little brother to me. My sympathy goes out to Mrs. Phelps and Lisa and Linda and his new wife and children. I am happy to hear that he found the love of his life. I will cherish the found memories we had together. The world has lost a great guy a true patriot and I wish him everlasting peace.
