Obituary

Leland Phelps passed away November 11, 2013 at the age of 52, in the presence of his family as a result of severe injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Leland was born February 14, 1961 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Following a term of service in the Navy, Lee settled in Southern California and began a career as a car salesman-a career that brought him great fulfillment. Lee spent time at various dealerships throughout Southern California, most recently as a well-loved and highly successful salesman for South Bay Mercedes Benz.

Lee was recently married this past July to his beloved Ivonne Bravo Phelps and was joyously happy as husband to Ivy and father to Ivy’s three children, Anthony, Sky and London, who he loved dearly.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Edson Herbert Phelps, and is survived by his mother, Marjorie Schmidt Phelps, his sisters, Linda Morales and Lisa Davis Flores, nephew Stanton Kane Morales, and nieces Stephanie Davis and Megan Davis.

A service to celebrate Lee’s life will be held Saturday, November 23 at 11 AM at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in San Juan Capistrano (31641 La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano). The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lee’s life may be sent to provide a Phelps Family College Fund. Checks should be written to Ivonne Bravo Phelps, with the notation: College Fund, and mailed to: Linda Morales, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 31641 La Novia Avenue, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675.

  1. I still have a recent message from Leland on my phone after I called him for some advice and his reply was as loving and attentive and darling as always. I miss him and still think I can call if I have a question at times! I have already had a dream about him and he is enjoying himself “up there”. He was literally at a restaurant on a lake and it was sunset and I was passing by and chatted as we did in life and then went on. Same Leland!! I know I will see him again with many other loved ones down the road myself…

  2. Lee was an absolute gem. He sold me my last 3 cars and every time I came to the dealership for any reason, I would go visit him so we can catch up. The last time I saw him was on September 30th as we huddled around his desk looking at his wedding pictures on his iphone. He was so happy. He was pointing out pictures where he believed he looked snazzy. Always kind, always greeted and said goodbye with a bug hug and a smile. It will be hard to not see him in that corner seat. God needed him more. Thank you for the laughs and memories – you were way more than my car person, but a kind friend. Will continue to keep your loved ones in my daily prayers. Warmest regards and with sympathy. Milaine Isaac.

  3. I bought my last two cars from Lee. He was an energetic and magnanimus person who went the extra mile to make a client happy. He was a great guy to know and he will be sorley missed. When I heard about his tragic passing it took my breath away. Very sad for anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Good by, Friend.

Last night I went to go see my friend at Mercedes when I was informed about
Lee’s passing. In disbelief I had to be told 3 times before accepting what I was
being told as the truth. I have known Lee for the past ten years not only was
I honored to know him but my wife, children, and brothers knew him as well. We
have all been sadden of Lee’s passing, we will never forget our good friend, his
smile will always remain in our heart, and will never be forgotten in our prayers.
Good Bless you Leland! We all miss you!! Thank you for that fun test drive on
Airport Rd. in the twin turbo E63.
