He attended Harbor Junior College briefly and was called back to the US Navy Seabees for 2 years and upon completion of his military service, he attended Long Beach City College and transferred to the University of California, Santa Barbara where he graduated with a B.A. degree. He and Marcia Frank were married during the last year of college and moved to Long Beach to start a teaching career and a family. Leigh also attended Cal State Long Beach where he received his M.A. degree. After 15 years of teaching, he was employed in a regional occupation program in Orange County as Director, Instructional Services.
