Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lee Robert Kenney, age 55, on January 9th, 2026. Lee was born July 30th, 1970, residing most of his life in Southern California.

Lee was proud of his academic career, receiving a degree in Economics from UCLA (go Bruins!), a teaching credential from CSUDH, and his J.D. from Chapman Law University. He worked as a high school teacher, impacting many young lives, and then continued his journey working in mortgage law for the remainder of his life.

More than anything, Lee loved nature. He was an avid hiker and camper, and loved riding his bikes through the mountains. Lee loved the ocean and spent his time surfing, scuba diving, tidepooling, and snorkeling. He loved to partake in beach cleanups and lived a very sustainable life, advocating for the planet in any way he could. Lee also immensely loved all animals. He adored his three dogs, Blueduck, Sasha, and Yuki and shared a love for all ocean animals.

Lee was someone who cared so deeply about social justice issues, and advocated for human rights with every breath he took. Lee was an avid protester, and loved discussing history and politics.

Lee touched the lives of so many. He was charismatic and charming, compassionate, adventurous, and lit up every room he walked in with his infectious smile. He loved his family and friends more than anything.

Lee is survived by his two kids, Kaysha and Cassady, his partner, Dawn, his two brothers, Colin and Casey, and his parents Francine, and Michael and Marissa.

Lee’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00am at Baby Beach located in Dana Point Harbor. If you would like to donate to Lee’s favorite charity in his honor, please make donations to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
