Obituary
Lee Ken Voobrown died on September 21, 2025 in Laguna Beach, California.
Lee was born in Jessleton, Malaysia on January 18, 1946. She began her formal education in Hong Kong where she completed six grade levels in only four years. By 1955 Malaysia had made tremendous progress rebuilding the once British Colony after World War II in anticipation of forming a new nation so Lee returned to complete her formal education in five years. After becoming the first girl in her school to pass the Senior Cambridge Exams she sailed off to Great Britain in 1960 to pursue a nursing education. She followed that by becoming a midwife.
She emigrated to the United States in 1967 having been offered a job at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC. Lee thoroughly enjoyed her work experience and colleagues there but an offer to pursue her career at Los Angeles County General Hospital in 1968 drew her to California. By1974 Lee had become a citizen of the United States of America and accepted a position with the Veterans Administration where she devoted her services to treating military veterans until 1997. She finally retired her professional license in 2000 to devote her fulI attention to her husband, Davd J. Brown, for the rest of her life.
Lee met and married David in 1985 and her love was the greatest gift he ever received in his life. They built a successful life together pursuing careers in health care and law. They found Laguna Beach to their liking in 1987. Lee and David spent many days exploring the various coves and beaches in Laguna Beach, walking in their 1,000 acre backyard also known as the Greenbelt and enjoying Catalina Sunsets from their front sundeck.
Lee is survived by her husband, David, brother David (Mary) Voo, brother ChiMin (Matilda) Woo, sisters Nyuk Ken Thien, Tshin Ken Voo, Moi Ng and Ruth (Kok-Swang) Voo-Tan and several nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
