Obituary

“In the end
these things matter most:
How well did you love?
How fully did you live?
How deeply did you let go?”
“• Jack Kornfield
It’s common for people to remember only the good things about those they’ve lost, but with Kyle the simple truth is that he was made up entirely of good things. Kyle truly dedicated his life to helping others. As a child living in Arizona, he was always kind to others and looked out for his younger brother, making sure nobody ever felt excluded. As a young adult, he attended NAU where he obtained his undergraduate degree in education. It came as no surprise to anyone who knew Kyle that he would choose a career focused on supporting and motivating others. That university was also the meeting place of his adoring wife, Rachael, with whom he shared 19 amazing years of friendship.
After 4 years of teaching in Arizona, Kyle and Rachael married and set up their fairytale life together in Orange County, California, which is where they were privileged with 14 years of wedded bliss and countless adventures together. After obtaining his first masters degree at USC, Kyle began his 10-year career as a special education teacher for teenagers with learning disabilities and emotional disorders. During this time, Kyle also completed a Doctorate in Education through USC. His experience working as a special educator led him to his ultimate calling as a psychotherapist dedicated to helping families make the most of their lives with children living with disabilities. During all of this time and while acquiring so many accomplishments, Kyle still spent his free time supporting others; friends, family, students, and new acquaintances alike were all beneficiaries of Kyle’s seemingly endless compassion. Having obtained 3 graduate degrees and successfully running his own therapy practice, Kyle’s humility never ceased to amaze those he worked with. Everything he worked for was for the greater good, regardless of how much sacrifice was required.
In the 40 remarkable years that Kyle graced this world, he left a trail of pure loving kindness and joy that will certainly have a continuing impact on everyone who has had the honor to know him, work with him, and love him.
Kyle left this world on June 29th, surrounded by those who knew him best and loved him profoundly. He is survived by his wife Rachael (along with their 4 rescued doggies), his mother Darlene, brother Andrew, and father James. His memory is also survived by his dearest friends who have been like loving family to Kyle and Rachael over their lifetime together.

  1. I was a student of Kyle Erwin’s during my many years at Mardan. He had taught me so much more then just the required subject I took in his class. He believed in each one of his students staunchly. He had aided me in stepping into a path towards a brighter future. He was more then a simple teacher, he was a mentor like no other. I remember getting on other kids cases if they showed the slightest disrespect towards him, he would always smile at that. To his family and wife, I am incredibly sorry for your loss. To Kyle, thank you so much for all that you’ve done for me and others. I will never forget you, I never have.

  2. I am absolutely heartbroken to hear of Kyle’s passing. He was a huge influence in my life when i attended Mardan, to his family i would like to give my deepest sympathies in this hard time.
