Obituary

Mary Kathleen Murray McFadden passed away peacefully on April 12 in Irvine, California at age 81. Born April 3, 1935 in Sandusky, Ohio, Kathleen graduated from Sandusky High School in 1953. She met her husband, James P. McFadden, in high school chess club. Kathleen was also a charter member of her Sandusky high school synchronized swim team and enjoyed swimming throughout life. Kathleen received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marquette University in 1957 and worked as a nurse throughout her life.

Kathleen was known for her positive outlook on life and had a great love of family. She also loved cooking, picnics, scrabble and music. Kathleen connected easily with others and was well loved. Kathleen and Jim were devoted to each other and had eleven children: seven boys and four girls. Her children were Kathleen’s proudest accomplishment.

Kathleen was preceded in death by husband Jim; sons Gerald and Michael; daughter Maggie; parents Emmett and Florence Brady Murray; sister Carol Ann McGroarty and brother Michael Murray. She is survived by her daughters Ann (Royal), Mary and Maureen; sons, James (Diane), Thomas, Peter (Leehwa), Joe (Melody) and Dan (Nora); grandchildren Jon, Elizabeth, Theresa, Joshua, Luc, Michelle, Chelsea, and Connell; great grandchildren, Paddy and Veronica; sister Elaine; brothers, Dennis, Lightfoot and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016, at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA 92653. Funeral mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St Nicholas Church, 24252 El Toro Rd, Laguna Woods, CA

  1. Oh I remember Kathleen so well. I was in the sixth grade when she and Jim married. Mom hosted their rehearsal dinner at 124 East Madison Street. I was so excited to have a real bride in our family and she was lovely. Best of all, I got to buy a new red dress and hat for the occasion and I got to help serve the dinner.

    Love and hugs to all and congrats to Kathleen for a life well lived.
