Obituary

Karen Olason, born April 16,1944, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

Karen was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and always a champion and lover of dogs; hers and all others. She was an auditor at Point Loma Credit Union and retired earlier this year after being in the banking industry for more than 30 years.

Karen’s favorite place was the beach. She was an avid reader and would regularly take her beach chair, her hat and her book and retreat to one of her favorite Southern CA beaches for an afternoon of bliss. Her love of books was rivaled by her passion for good food & wine. She loved to cook and continually tried new recipes, always eager to find a new favorite. But her greatest loves were her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Karen has three daughters and one son, all married with children:
Krista (daughter) and Steve Kaelin live in Ohio.
Robin (daughter) and Bill Ross live in Washington.
Jeff (son) and Jane Elliott live in New Mexico.
Tammy (daughter) and Mike Drechsler live in Southern California.

She was blessed with twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

  5. To the family,
Today, I heard of Karen’s passing and was so saddened by it. I am one of 3 former co-workers at Pacific Marine Credit Union who would meet at her house for “Happy Hour”. There was never a time when she did not share stories of the latest happenings and her love for her family.

She introduced us to the “Del” at Christmas so much so that it became a tradition for us to go in early December for lunch, watch the ice skaters on the beach, take pictures by the Christmas tree in the lobby, and of course, shop! BTW- I don’t think she would’ve liked the upside down tree this past year!

We missed Karen being with us this past year. Now, to find out that we lost her only days later, I am so grateful that we toasted her (with Hotel Del” champagne – a must have at our lunches) and honored her for being the special person she was.

Although it took us too long to find out that she had passed, it still leaves an emptiness in my heart. May you all find comfort and healing as you reminisce over the memories of her time with you.

May she Rest In Peace, She will be missed but not forgotten.
