Karen Ann Alvarado
8/8/1948 – 10/14/2023

Karen Ann Alvarado was born on August 8, 1948, in Teaneck, New Jersey and raised in Old Tappan, New Jersey. She passed away in Laguna Beach, California on October 14, 2023.

Karen was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Dorothy Seddon and her brother, Gary Seddon. She is survived by her husband Al Alvarado and children Doug Alvarado and Brennan Alvarado.

Karen graduated from Bucknell University in three and a half years with a degree in Biology. After a brief time in Denver, Colorado where she started her career in the medical field she moved to Newport Beach, California. Karen enjoyed dancing, performing in musicals, and attending the theater. Through the Catholic Alumni Club she met the love of her life, Al, who played the piano and enjoyed the arts. They married on February 25, 1978, and had two sons. The family settled in Laguna Beach where Al and Karen raised the boys and became active in their community. Karen worked full-time and was one of the few women recognized for her career advancements and growth in her field. The family faithfully attended St. Catherine of Siena Church and the boys attended St. Catherine of Siena School. Karen's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was called to serve. She volunteered tirelessly for her church and school communities. Upon retirement she followed her passion and volunteered for The Artists Fund at the Festival of Arts which financially assists and encourages growth for Festival artists. Even though Karen was always on the go she found time to stay connected with her many friends. She will best be remembered for her devotion to her family.

A Vigil will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 7-9 p.m. at O'Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 12 p.m. at St Catherine of Siena Church, 1042 Temple Terrace, Laguna Beach.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Ruby's Diner (Rooftop), 30622 South Coast Highway, Laguna Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church or The Artists Fund at the Festival of Arts.
