Obituary

Judy Belser nee Judith Ann Nichols
July 11, 1955- April 22, 2009

Judy passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital on April 22nd after a brief illness. On that day she went home to heaven and is now rejoicing with God and her beloved mother and other dear friends and family members that predeceased her.

The beloved daughter of Wharton A., DDS and Joyce E. Nichols, she was born at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., the third of their four children. She spent her early years traveling with her military family to Germany, West Point in New York, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and finally to Honolulu, Hawaii. She completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and shortly thereafter moved to Napa Valley, California to pursue her career. She rekindled a friendship from Hawaii with Vince Belser, who was attending San Francisco University, and he helped her to settle in to her new environment. This friendship soon blossomed into a life-long love affair; Judy and Vince were married on August 22, 1984. Vince then joined the Marine Corps and received officer training in Quantico, Virginia and flight training in Pensacola, Florida. Judy relished her role of military wife, as her mother had before her, and she and Vince loved all of their assignments, making many devoted friends along the way. Finally, they made their home in Mission Viejo for the past 25 years. They have one beautiful daughter, Callan Justine, who is 20 years old and attending college in Delray Beach, Florida.

Judy loved life, and lived her life to the fullest as a devout Christian. She was the most devoted wife and mother, daughter and sister, cousin and niece, and best friend to untold numbers of people. Our Judy never met a stranger. No matter where she was, she always made a positive impact on the peoples lives she touched. This beautiful soul will be so very missed.

Judy is survived by her husband Vince and her daughter Callan; her father, Wharton; brothers Ken and Greg Cindy and her sister Kathy Hank; her puppies Malibu and Snickers and favorite feline Sadie.

Memorial Service will be held at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 24772 Chrisanta Drive, Mission Viejo, 92691. There will be a celebration of Judy’s life and open house at the Belser residence immediately following. They also wish to acknowledge the caring and professional nursing staff of the SICU at Mission Hospital and Saddleback Hospital. Their kindness will always be remembered. Judy will always be remembered as a true instrument of the Lord’s peace.

  1. I have known Judy since our daughters Callen and Laura were in first grade together at Cordillera. She was always filled with joy, energy and a love of life. We were also softball moms together for the girls’ first softball team, the Sunflowers. Judy made the cutest hats for the girls with large silk sunflowers on the brim – we still have ours after all these years! Judy and I also shared a faith in Christ and it was a joy to study the Bible with her at Bible Study Fellowship. What a comfort to know she is now rejoicing with her Lord and her loved ones in heaven. She will be very much missed by those of us she left behind. Much love to both of you, Vince and Callen. Our prayers will be with you.

  2. Dear Vince & Callan:

Our hearts break for you, but we share in your comfort of knowing she is resting in the arms of God.

Our memories of her consist of the many softball games we shared … with the dogs and how we laughed at them and at ourselves. A part of her will live in us always.

If there is anything we can do for you, I hope you won’t hesitate to call on us.

    Fondly,

    Herb & Lise Lank

  3. Vince & Callan, We are so sorry for your loss. We were shocked to hear of her passing. She was always so bubbly and vibrant and it is hard to believe that she is gone. Judy was a good friend and we are going to miss her e-mails and just knowing her. We have very fond memories of all of you when we were next door neighbors.

  4. Judy spoiled me in so many sweet ways. She knew I loved banana bread and would often leave a fresh little loaf just for me on my kitchen counter . We shared sweet peas and tomatoes in the summer and dinner on the patio during the hottest of summer nights. We watched over each other’s homes when each of us traveled , making sure plants and gardens received water and that Sadie got her meds on time. Some of my favorite recipes are from Judy – she fed our bodies as well as ours souls and I will miss her.

  5. I met Judy smack in front of my house. She and Vince were walking the dogs, checking out our particular home model getting ideas. We immediately hit it off!

I have lavished in and enjoyed many profound, soul-feeding conversations with Judy.

Judy deeply missed her mother, as she talked with me out my mother’s illness, yet her eyes twinkled, comforted in knowing her Mom was with God.

Judy’s father must be one proud man, and her Mom’s heart too had to swell with pride in bring such a beautiful person into this world. She was a magnet, she attracted people to her. Judy was: funny, optimistic, encouraging, bright, supportive, unselfish, creative, capable, and my favorite animal lover! She was pretty on the inside and out!

Dear Vince and Callan, I pray your hearts heal and sweet memories of your loving wife and mother fill you with peace.

I am selfishly overwhelmed with grief for losing Judy too soon. I am pissed off at myself for not getting with Judy more often, instead of simple email or running into each other. I will take the lesson once again how life is too short Judy would want that and for us to realize that we should live each day to the fullest with God.

So as heartbroken as I am, I know how blessed we are to have had her in our lives, briefly or fully. Judy basks in the glowing love of our Father. I wish I could feel the elation and bliss in her heart. I love you Judy.
