Obituary

Judy Belser nee Judith Ann Nichols
July 11, 1955- April 22, 2009

Judy passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital on April 22nd after a brief illness. On that day she went home to heaven and is now rejoicing with God and her beloved mother and other dear friends and family members that predeceased her.

The beloved daughter of Wharton A., DDS and Joyce E. Nichols, she was born at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., the third of their four children. She spent her early years traveling with her military family to Germany, West Point in New York, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and finally to Honolulu, Hawaii. She completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and shortly thereafter moved to Napa Valley, California to pursue her career. She rekindled a friendship from Hawaii with Vince Belser, who was attending San Francisco University, and he helped her to settle in to her new environment. This friendship soon blossomed into a life-long love affair; Judy and Vince were married on August 22, 1984. Vince then joined the Marine Corps and received officer training in Quantico, Virginia and flight training in Pensacola, Florida. Judy relished her role of military wife, as her mother had before her, and she and Vince loved all of their assignments, making many devoted friends along the way. Finally, they made their home in Mission Viejo for the past 25 years. They have one beautiful daughter, Callan Justine, who is 20 years old and attending college in Delray Beach, Florida.

Judy loved life, and lived her life to the fullest as a devout Christian. She was the most devoted wife and mother, daughter and sister, cousin and niece, and best friend to untold numbers of people. Our Judy never met a stranger. No matter where she was, she always made a positive impact on the peoples lives she touched. This beautiful soul will be so very missed.

Judy is survived by her husband Vince and her daughter Callan; her father, Wharton; brothers Ken and Greg Cindy and her sister Kathy Hank; her puppies Malibu and Snickers and favorite feline Sadie.

Memorial Service will be held at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 24772 Chrisanta Drive, Mission Viejo, 92691. There will be a celebration of Judy’s life and open house at the Belser residence immediately following. Vince and Callan wish to express their deepest gratitude to all of Judy’s wonderful family and dear friends for all their love and support. They also wish to acknowledge the caring and professional nursing staff of the SICU at Mission Hospital and Saddleback Hospital. Their kindness will always be remembered. Judy will always be remembered as a true instrument of the Lord’s peace.

Dear Vince and Callan – We are so sorry to hear about Judy’s passing. I have so many fond memories of working with her in the classroom at Cordillera when Callan and our daughters Sarah and Katie were students there. She was always smiling and so much fun to be around. Her good-naturedness was very contagious. She will be missed here on Earth but just remember she will always be with you. The White Family

  3. Vince and Callan:
Judy was a wonderful neighbor and WONDERFUL FRIEND!!! She always seemed to know when I needed her smile and words of comfort. The meals she brought to Bill and soup for me was so appreciated. I am so sorry we were not able to attend her Memorial, but I understand from everyone that it was a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. Miss you, Judy!

  4. Vince and Callan,

We were so shcoked to hear of Judy’s death and know it must be a very difficult time for both of you and are praying for God’s comfort. We had seen Judy and Vince at a bagel shop not too long ago and enjoyed visiting and getting caught up on life. Judy was always so friendly and we’ll never forget her smile. Her love for life was contagious and you could feel God’s love through her caring spirit. It is a praise that she is now with the Lord who she loved so deeply. We will miss you Judy!

  5. I could always count on my dear friend to truly “be there” in the moment no matter what we were doing. She had great pearls of wisdom to share and was a terrific listener. No matter what I needed fixing…she had the perfect someone to do it. In her zeal to juggle 1000 projects, she had real world experience …always going a mile a minute. I look around my house and see the results of all of her “hot tips”.

With so much energy, it was hard to imagine that she would stop and slow down….noticing what others often missed. I would shutter every time she saved a worm on our walks…unable to pass it by after the sprinklers moved it in harms way. That compassion multiplied 100-fold when it came to the bigger animals in her life. I can’t imagine any dog in America getting that much TLC and exercise.

Judy’s love for her family was boundless and so many of our chats were consumed with the joy she felt and the future she looked forward to with them. Her faith had so much to do with her positive attitude, and it was contagious.

After meeting so many friends at the funeral, it is hard to believe that she could find the time to be there for our walks every week, take me to lunch on my birthday every year, and call “for no reason” just because she truly valued friendship.

I trust that the Lord had a good reason for taking Judy to heaven so quickly, and I know the other folks up there will love her as much as we have.
