Obituary

Judy Belser nee Judith Ann Nichols
July 11, 1955- April 22, 2009

Judy passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital on April 22nd after a brief illness. On that day she went home to heaven and is now rejoicing with God and her beloved mother and other dear friends and family members that predeceased her.

The beloved daughter of Wharton A., DDS and Joyce E. Nichols, she was born at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., the third of their four children. She spent her early years traveling with her military family to Germany, West Point in New York, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and finally to Honolulu, Hawaii. She completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene and shortly thereafter moved to Napa Valley, California to pursue her career. She rekindled a friendship from Hawaii with Vince Belser, who was attending San Francisco University, and he helped her to settle in to her new environment. This friendship soon blossomed into a life-long love affair; Judy and Vince were married on August 22, 1984. Vince then joined the Marine Corps and received officer training in Quantico, Virginia and flight training in Pensacola, Florida. Judy relished her role of military wife, as her mother had before her, and she and Vince loved all of their assignments, making many devoted friends along the way. Finally, they made their home in Mission Viejo for the past 25 years. They have one beautiful daughter, Callan Justine, who is 20 years old and attending college in Delray Beach, Florida.

Judy loved life, and lived her life to the fullest as a devout Christian. She was the most devoted wife and mother, daughter and sister, cousin and niece, and best friend to untold numbers of people. Our Judy never met a stranger. No matter where she was, she always made a positive impact on the peoples lives she touched. This beautiful soul will be so very missed.

Judy is survived by her husband Vince and her daughter Callan; her father, Wharton; brothers Ken and Greg Cindy and her sister Kathy Hank; her puppies Malibu and Snickers and favorite feline Sadie.

Memorial Service will be held at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 24772 Chrisanta Drive, Mission Viejo, 92691. There will be a celebration of Judy’s life and open house at the Belser residence immediately following. Vince and Callan wish to express their deepest gratitude to all of Judy’s wonderful family and dear friends for all their love and support. They also wish to acknowledge the caring and professional nursing staff of the SICU at Mission Hospital and Saddleback Hospital. Their kindness will always be remembered. Judy will always be remembered as a true instrument of the Lord’s peace.

I did not know Judy, but wanted to send my condolences, because I noticed that Judy was born in Garfield Memorial Hospital as I was a few years earlier in 1948.

She seemed like a great person.

My prayers go out to the family.

  2. Dear Vince and Callan:

We were so sorry to read about Judy. Callan was on several teams with Kalynn and Andrianna and Judy was the team mom. Always ready to do anything and loved the kids and loved life. She always cared about those around her and loved to have a good time and make sure that everyone else did to. This is a painful time for both of you and I know that you both have many wonderful memories to hold on to. We are thinking of you and you are in our prayers.

  3. I just heard about Judy today, April 27. I was fortunate to get to know Judy, if briefly, through her friendship with her Casey Rosien. Casey was very fortunate to have Judy as a friend and I when I met her, I instantly liked her so much and felt her energy and happy spirit. When Casey passed away, she was such a help to Casey’s children. I am certain that she is with Casey right now and they are tending their gardens and playing with the dogs they loved so much. I know that life won’t be the same without Judy and I ache for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Jenny

  4. Above all, Susan & I wish to extend our sincere thoughts, prayers and kindest words to Vince, Callan, and the family of Judy.

I had the pleasure of knowing Judy through the residential real estate business. Judy & Vince became life-long friends as a result. Judy, early on, set my bar of excellence very high. Judy was the most honest, motivating, 110%, thoughtful, kindest, “Christ-like” client, and friend I have ever known.

I recall years ago, during the sale of their home on Chrisanta, discussing details with Judy on the phone. I had CNN on the tv while I was speaking with Judy about how much she loved her life, Vince & Callan…when suddenly a news release announced that 3 choppers connected to the Air National Guard/Coast Guard had gone down in the gulf area of Corpus Cristi TX.
Having known that Vince was down in Texas on training exercises…I said: “Oh My God”. Judy then said: “What is it Jim”? I said: “Judy, I think you better check on Vince”. She said why? “There’s been a Helicopter accident in TX”. She then said…”I’ll call you back”. We were both very, very happy to hear that Vince was ok.

Oh, how she loved Vince & Callan, “BOO”, and “snickers”.

    We’ll miss you Judy.

    Dear Vince and Callan,
I share in your sorrow in the loss of such a special person. And yet, I can’t help but rejoice that she is now with the God she loved so much. His love shone forth from her eyes and flowed out of her heart to others through friendly conversation and funny, sometimes informative, e- mails. May God bless you as you share your memories of her. She has made a difference in my life.
Much love from a Cordillera Mom,
    Lisa Frank
