Obituary

Joyce Yvonne Rissling, 79, of Laguna Woods, California, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Easter morning April 12, 2020. She was born January 27, 1941 to parents Harold Hallmark and Jeanne Beaupréin Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Joyce graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in Long Beach, CA in 1959 and received her B.S. in Medical Technology from Immaculate Heart College. Joyce is survived by Adolph, her husband of 52 years; her brothers Terry and Alan; her children Anita Grohmann (Jason), John (Trish), Anthony (Michelle), and Janna Mercado (Marcello); and her grandchildren Ondre, Dontae, Avery, Aiden, Gavin, Isaiah, Owen, Elizabeth & Myles.

She spent over 35 years of her career as a medical technician in the laboratory at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where she made lifelong friendships with the group she affectionately referred to as “The Golden Girls”. Joyce was very crafty and enjoyed scrapbooking, cake decorating and making pressed flower arrangements and greeting cards. She also loved to spend time with family and friends on summer trips to Lake Arrowhead, and family reunions in Canada.

Joyce loved the holidays, especially Christmas. The Rissling household went all out with decorations including artificial snow, “Merry Christmas” in dozens of languages, and a manger and nativity scene. She was also life-long Dodgers and Lakers fan.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Dana Point at a date and time to be determined.

  1. I have great memories of your mom. Some great songs she taught us in Brownies (fried ham, fried ham, cheese and bologna…. and “I got 2 wheels and a running board”) and my great cake decorating badge. And so many other great childhood memories Hugs to you and your family

What a blessing to have met Mrs. Joyce few years back when we visited you out west. She was so welcoming and kind. You have a great momma, Anita, honor her memory with a sweet smile of fondness. Please accept my sympathies for your loss. Hugs.

  3. Dear Anita and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about your mom. A favorite memory was when your folks used to decorate for Christmas! You are in my prayers. God bless you.

  4. Your mother was the only other woman, other then my own mother, that I called mom. Growing up as kids I was over your house so often, so many sleepovers, so much time with your family I came to love your mom like she was my second mother. She was a wonderful woman, very kind and I always thought so hard-working! She will be missed love you Joyce… I mean mom!!

  5. Rest In Peace! You did a wonderful job raising your Children.
