December 24, 1937 ~ April 13, 2009
Joyce Ann Pope, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and teacher, of Mission Viejo, California died, April 13, 2009. Born in Kentucky on December 24, 1937 to Woodrow and Ruth Wyrick. Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University, Phi Beta Kappa, Chi Omega Sorority. Awarded Masters Degree in Education from United States International University. As a classroom teacher she retired from Montevideo Elementary, SVUSD, with over thirty years of experience.
She is survived by her husband, William Pope; her daughters, Kristin, Kennesey and Shannon; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Sunshine Kids Foundation Dedicated to children with cancer and/or The V Foundation Dedicated to cancer research.

Bill, my deepest condolences to you, your children & grand-children on the loss of your wife, mother and grand-mother. I went through much of grade school and high school with Joyce. She was one of the most pleasant persons I ever associated with.

Thanks to Joyceann for teaching my son the tell time and many other things! I so enjoyed being a Mom aide for Joyceann and helping with the “facts page” in the register newspaper. Her contributions to the education of children are many.

As I just completed my Masters program last week, my mother and I were talking about the most influential teacher in my schooling. Mrs. Pope, my third grade teacher- the most wonderful teacher I have ever had, was this first person to pop into my brain.
I “googled” her hoping to write a thanks to her and found this. I was 9 years old at the time and didn’t realized just how thankful I was for her. She taught me to be organized, she had this fantastic energy about her teaching that made even cursive fun for me. I was always looking for a challenge and Mrs. Pope was always there to encourage us along the way.
I am so thankful to her. My condolences go out to the family. She was a lovely lady.
