Obituary

Joseph Thomas Teglovic December 2, 1954 – July 1, 2019

After battling cancer for the third time, Joe went peacefully to be with God and his mother on July 15, 2019.

Joe was born on December 21, 1954 in Long Beach, CA, and raised in Plymouth, Ohio. A graduate of Plymouth High School class of 1973, Joe attended Ohio State University for one year before moving to Long Beach, CA and continuing his education at California State University, Long Beach, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. During his time at CSLB, Joe was very active in leadership and was elected Student Body President. Later that year, Joe was accepted to The University of California Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, CA, receiving his JD in 1985, after passing the California Bar Exam on his first try° Joe went on to practice law as a litigator in Los Angeles at the firm of Bodkin McCarthy Sargent Smith. During his time practicing law, Joe received many accolades. He was qualified as an Attorney of US District Court Southern District of California, licensed by the Supreme Court of California to practice in all courts of the state, was honored for providing pro bono legal services to low income Californians through the Western Law Center for the Handicapped, was a member of the American Bar Association and included in the Who’s Who in California for outstanding professional achievement, superior leadership and exceptional service in the field of law.

The first born of nine children, Joe was a natural leader. As well, he was a father figure to his younger siblings. To look back at his life in all the pictures collected, anyone can see how important family was to him.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, George F. Teglovic and Joan M. Manno. He is survived by his sisters Mary (Bruce) Russo of Dallas, TX, Joan Teglovic of Lake Arrowhead, CA, Maria Marshall of Huntington Beach, CA, Virginia (William) Bernardy of Arlington, TX and Marygrace (Keith) Souter of Seal Beach, CA, his brothers Richard Teglovic of Port Angeles, WA, Eugene Teglovic of Denver, CO and John Teglovic, of Yorba Linda, CA, as well as several nieces, nephews, grand nephews, and his faithful companion JohnnyCat.

Joe’s philosophy on life was twofold: learn as much as you can and treat others with the compassion that Jesus preached in the bible. Anyone who knew Joe certainly would not doubt that he lived that philosophy to the end of his life.

A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at 1 Cottage Ln, Aliso Viejo, CA on July 20th at 5 PM. Family and Friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
