Obituary

Raculia, Joseph, 87, retired pastor, passed away on December 26, 2009. Joseph was born and raised in Kansas City, the oldest of seven children. He graduated from high school at 16 and shortly thereafter went to work in the engineering department at TWA. He then joined the Army Air Corp, serving proudly in WWII, It was during this time he received a call to Christian ministry. Joseph began attending Southwestern Bible Institute, graduating with a BA in Ministry. While there, he planted his first church in Dallas, TX. He led a building project as the church erected its first sanctuary, shortly thereafter he was ordained by the Assembly of God denomination. He lived a fruitful life, serving 50 years in ministry with his beloved wife Angelin, who preceded him in death in 2007. They touched countless lives during their pastorates in Dallas, Los Angeles and Buena Park. He was also known as a dynamic preacher and gifted teacher of the Word of God. Joseph’s great faith and passion for God inspired others to pursue their own calls to ministry. His church in Dallas resulted in the birth of four churches which are thriving today. After retiring from his last pastorate, he served in ministries with the denomination, including Convoy of Hope, the Church Care Network, and did interim pastoral work. Joseph loved spending time with his family, traveling and gardening. He is survived by three daughters, JoAnn Kreun Glen, Pat Hill Jim and Mary Lou Singleton Steve. His legacy continues with three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who are blessed to have known and loved him.

A memorial service celebrating Joseph’s life will be held Monday, January 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Saddleback Church Plaza Room, 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest, CA 92630, located at the corner of El Toro Road and Portola Parkway.

  1. Peggy and I were very sad to hear of Pastors passing, but we know that what he preached all the years of his life he is now getting to live and see first hand the love of the Lord.I am sure that Mr. B. and Troy were there to meet him at the door.
Pastor was very instrumental in both bring myself to the Lord as well as giving me the two best gifts of my life. My salvation, and my wife. Every thing that we have both learned we owe to a dedicated pastor and his daughter to helping us thru tough times.
Pastor we will miss you but you be there holding the door open when its our time to come home. Who knows maybe there will be another “Day of Rejoicing Choir”.

  2. Pastor Raculia married my husband, Gary and I almost 29 years ago at Buena Park Community church. He also baptized me there 28 years ago.
I’ll always remember his patriotic socks and tie for the 4th of July picnics, and watching him pitch for our softball games.
I enjoyed it so much when he would lead us in the song “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” You could tell he loved the praise and worship songs.
He was always ready to roll up his sleeves and get dirty like the rest of us when working on the classrooms that were built so many years ago.
He was so loved by the Korean people when the choir made a trip there in the late 70′ and 80’s. That said a lot about his character.
My time at Buena Park Community Church was such a blessing, and my friendship with Pastor Raculia will always be filled with fond, loving memories. God bless all of the Raculia family with the joy and peace that comes from knowing their father is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  3. Our deepest sympathy to the Raculia family. Though we are saddened by Pastor’s home going we rejoice with you knowing that we will see him again in heaven. We have many wonderful memories of our time under his leadership. His prayers, guidance and love during difficult times in our family brought us through victorious! We will never forget this Shepherd who led his flock with wisdom and love. We pray you will find comfort in knowing that he has finished his race and is now with the Father.

  4. Erma Lefevre says:

Dear Raculia family, My love and prayers for God’s peace and comfort to be with you at this time of loss. At the same time, it’s a time of victory for dear Pastor Raculia…he is home with his loved ones who have gone on before him. Our family attended his church for 29 years, so you can imagine the impact he had on our lives. He was an important part of the milestones of our lives…he performed our wedding ceremonies, dedicated our children to the Lord, and led us in our spiritual journey. I will always remember the gusto with which he led the hymnal singing…I vividly recall him singing “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!” I think that’s where the choir name came from! We will always remember him fondly and greet him warmly when “we all get to Heaven.”

  5. Our Piedmont A/G days was the beginning, the Lord Jesus our foundation and hope, heaven to be our reunion time. We love our pastor, bonds that never break.
