Joseph Machado, age 87, passed away on November 17, 2024, in Mission Viejo, California. Born on April 24, 1937, in Bristol, Rhode Island, Joseph was a man of deep faith and devotion, both to his family and his beliefs.
Joseph's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his loved ones and his community. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Anne Marie Machado, and a loving father to his children, Cynthia Manlapaz, John Paul Machado, and Andrea Carroll. Joseph's dedication extended to caring for Anne during her long illness, remaining by her side until her passing.
He enjoyed a rich life filled with music, having been a classically trained pianist. His early years included valuable time at La Salle Academy followed by higher education at the University of Rhode Island and later, an MBA from Rutgers University/ University of Southern California. Joseph also spent two years in the seminary before embracing a secular life that included service in the United States Army for three years.
Professionally, Joseph spent the early part of his career in chemical engineering at Bethlehem Steel, then transitioned to marketing at Dart Industries after moving to Southern California in the 1970s. His career path led him to the aerospace sector as a marketing manager for Smith Tool and eventually to Huck International as the Director of Mergers and Acquisitions, where he retired in the mid-1990s.
Joseph was deeply involved in his church communities at St John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes and St Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Dana Point. His faith and fellowship were a significant part of his life, especially in his later years.
He is survived by his sisters, Barbara O'Brien, Marilyn Buck, and Peggy Donnelly; his children, Cynthia Manlapaz, John Paul Machado, and Andrea Carroll; and his grandchildren, Melchor Manlapaz, William Machado, Elizabeth Machado, Theodore Carroll, and Benjamin Carroll. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anne Marie Machado, and his parents Margaret and Jose Machado.
The funeral mass will be held at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, California On December 16, followed by a burial service at Green Hills Memorial Park. Joseph will be remembered for his unwavering love, his commitment to his family and faith, and his gentle, caring spirit.
