Joe died in his sleep in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 30, 2024, of natural causes.
Joseph DePillo was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on April 15th, 1936. He excelled in academics, however, chose to leave school to care for his sick father and help support his family financially.
Joseph married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara Agnes Roth on October 2, 1954. They were happily married for 53 years, until Barbara’s death on February 2, 2007.
Introduced to the corrugated paper industry by his father-in-law, Joe swiftly rose to Vice President at Service Container in the early 1950s. Investors noticed his potential and offered him shares in a new company, where he served as CEO for many decades. Accurate Container became the largest independent corrugated manufacturer on the West Coast. Known for his integrity, Joe was a respected pioneer in the industry, admired for his business sense, kindness, and generosity. He retired in March of 2004, after 50 years in the business.
Joe helped many people financially with education and career pursuits, providing the support they needed to become successful in their chosen fields.
Joe was deeply passionate about fishing and cherished every moment spent on the water. He had a home in Baja Mexico on the Sea of Cortez and was actively involved with “Fishin’ for the Mission,” a charity fishing tournament for rural children’s education. His love for the people of Loreto and his legacy of philanthropy have left a positive impact for all that knew him.

To My siblings, Daughters and loved ones,
Dad was a great man. Even though he is gone, I feel as though he is still looking after me, as he always has.
We relied on him for so many things and his concern for our well-being never ceased.
Joe knew what love meant, and revealed loves mysteries to everyone he met.
We will miss him.

To all of the Depillo Family,
We had the pleasure of living next door to Joe and Barbara for many years. Barbara always made us laugh, and we saw how kind and caring Joe was with her until the very end.
We knew that Joe had been a very successful businessman, but he was very down to earth and always had a smile and kind words. We are going to miss Joe very much-we were lucky enough to live next door to him and his family for over 28 years.
Sincerely, Irene and Dom Berardesco
