  1. He was my hero. He loved his family unconditionally. A he was a hopeless romantic who loved to sing. I remember he always had a comb in his right back pocket. He would say “I have to comb my hair every 15 minutes.” Why I would ask? “Because, if I don’t comb it, then I will lose my look.” “Ok apa.” I would say. Then he would just laugh. As you can see from the picture he was a snappy dresser. He also had a hundreds of sayings. Here is an example of one. “No hay peor lucha, que la que no se hace.” Loosley translated, it means.”Life is a daily struggle.”Some people struggle for better health,or more time on earth. Others for peace, others for love. Some struggle for their next meal. I think the point of his saying,is that we are blessed. Because God chose us to be here; to take part in this struggle called life. God tests our faith from time to time. We just need to have hope and put our faith in him. And keep moving forward. Dad would say that “God is always by are side.”My fathers’ struggle is over. He lived a good, long life. And think his heartache is healed. Because he is reunited with his one true love.I believe that they are both in heaven, singing in a duet. And probably during an intermission my mom is going to ask him. “Viejo, what took you so long?” It was an honor to call him my “apa”.

I never knew him when I was young because he was very private. It wasn’t until mom passed away that he opened up to me. The memories I have of my father growing up is him coming home from work and I would take off his stinky socks (mom said) and he always saved half of his burrito from his lunch for me. He was an excellent provider, even going to the point of bringing us home delicious cakes and pies from dumpsters. They were fresh, clean, and very tasty. Others may be disgusted but to me, it made me proud of him and always put a smile on my young face. At the end he was truly able to fully express himself. I will always love him and is forever on my mind.
