Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Thomas Sines who peacefully transitioned on March 10th, 2024 after a valiant two-year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. John maintained his strength, humor, and courage throughout his journey. Every day was a battle to enjoy even one more minute in his beautiful life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gail, their two adoring children, Conner Sines (California) and Veronica Lowry with her husband Ryan Lowry (New York); two sisters, Jo Ann Swiger (Texas) and twin sister, Betty Sines (California); niece, Cheryl Squires (California), and his extended family and many loving friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, John Sidney and Caroline Sines.

John was loved by all who were lucky enough to know him. His kindness, compassion, and quick wit buoyed everyone around him during the hardest of times. John enjoyed a lengthy career as the top finance executive for multiple high-tech companies in and around Silicon Valley but it was his passion for Plein Air painting that truly made his heart sing. John’s legacy is marked by the love of his family and friends, his love of art and beauty, and his ability to masterfully reflect those emotions in his beautiful paintings. John will be sorely missed but his love and his paintings will always be with us.

I fondly remember talking to John at Leah’s wedding and how excited he was to be going on a painting trip along the coast. He talked about painting with such delight and enthusiasm. He and I shared our love of art and I appreciated his and Gail’s support of my photography so much. John was so sweet and easy to talk to. I always felt so comfortable in his presence and enjoyed our times together. My heartfelt condolences to Gail and to Conner and Veronica and the family.

    Gail, Veronica, and Conner.
Our hearts ache for the loss of our kind, loving John. John not only was a wonderful artist( our house is covered in John Sines paintings) he was a special soul. He fought his 2 year battle with such strength, while keeping his sense of humor and calm disposition. He was an inspiration to all of us. Our greatest joy was having John and Gail at our daughter Leah’s wedding last summer. He was such a trouper and was so sweet with our 1 year old granddaughter, who was quite enthralled with his cane. Although John is no longer physically with us, he will remain in our hearts always.
    Much love,
    Margie and Phil
