Obituary

John Margaretis, 84, was born September 22, 1924 in Ohio and passed away September 5, 2009 in San Juan Capistrano, CA. John enlisted for the Army during WWII and entered service on 04/06/1943 at Ft. Custer, Michigan. He served with the 246th Combat Engr. Batallion. The unit was attached to the 29th Infantry Div. on D-Day and landed on Utah Beach. The unit was attached to the 30th Infantry Div. for the battle of St. Lo. He was involved in the following campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Presidential Citations, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, ETO Medal with a Bronze Arrowhead, 5 Bronze Battle Stars and a Victory Medal. He is entitled to the French Government ‘Thank You’ America Medal. He was discharged at Camp Atterbury, Indiana on 12/01/1945.

An owner and operator of dry cleaners, John is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, John M. Lucila, Emanuel J. and Daniel W. Margaretis; 8 grandchildren.

Trisagion will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA. A Funeral Service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 12 at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 4949 Alton Pkwy, Irvine, CA. Burial will follow at El Toro Memorial Park.

    next door to each other.He served
    our country with Pride and was a
