Obituary

John “Larry” Dietsche was born in Montreal Canada, son of Rachel & Wilfred Dietsche. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Accardi, daughter Julie Planzo, sister Louise Dietsche-Moore in addition to countless family and friends.

Born in Montreal, Canada, he later was transferred to Indianapolis, IN with Chubb Insurance Company. In 1987 he had what he called the “opportunity of a lifetime” to move to California. John and Blanche had 19 wonderful years in Oakland, CA lovingly restoring their 100-year-old craftsman style bungalow. In 2019 John suggested they moved to Southern California as he loved the beach and warm weather. In December of 2019 they moved into his dream home in Laguna Niguel.

John/Larry was a wonderful, smart, caring individual who lived life to the fullest. He would go out of his way to make sure people were taken care of and included. If you needed help with a project he generously offered his expertise and time. If John/Larry was on the job you knew the job was done to perfection. If he saw an article or gift that he felt someone would enjoy he would send it on. Just recently he saw some remote-control cars. He knew his great nephews would love them so immediately he sent them off to be enjoyed.

He had a lifelong passion for cars, auto racing and anything mechanical. He lovingly restored Christine, his 1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible. For 37 plus years he held tickets for the Indianapolis 500. He shared this pilgrimage with close friends that shared his passion.

He also loved wine amassing over 1200 bottles of wine in his cellar. He collected bottles on trips to Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Okanagan Valley, France and Italy. French Burgundy and Chablis were his favorites. He truly enjoyed paring wine with new recipes and sharing that with family and friends.

John loved to travel and explore new locations, try different foods, and meet the local people. He and his wife made 4 cross country road trips visiting various cities and connecting with family and friends.  One of his favorite trips was a 3-month RV trip to Alaska hiking the wilderness and seeing the wildlife. The trip to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia was a life changing experience. Learning about the culture and the food was life changing.

John/Larry touched many people throughout his life. He will be missed.

Sincere condolences on the passing of Larry, a loving husband, father, and brother. I did not personally know him but I heard so many wonderful things about him & great stories from his sister, Louise, who loved him dearly. She will miss him immensely. They were so close for all their lives. Both were lucky to have had each other & such great support. He will be missed. Just remember all the great times & great memories.

  2. Kenneth Duke says:

As his loving sister, Louise’s, partner, and living a continent away, I have not had as many opportunities to meet and know Larry, and Blanche, as I would have liked. I look at that great, relaxed, photo of him, and grieve that we won’t enjoy the opportunities to know one another better. However, Louise recounts a lifetime of wonderful moments growing-up with Larry as his big sister, and many, many other, equally touching times, with him and his wife, and best friend, Blanche.
I have always admired the connection the three of them shared.
And Louise often proudly shared how Larry and Blanche were so generous with their care, time and resources in the service of others. A distinguished, thoughtful, and caring man, Larry will be deeply missed by many. Please accept my sincere condolences.
