Obituary

John J. Popoff, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 6, 2025, just days shy of his 88th birthday. Born on January 17, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, John spent his final years in Laguna Niguel, where he created countless cherished memories with his family and friends.

John enjoyed a fulfilling career in sales with the Southern California Gas Company, where he was known for his exceptional ability to connect with others. He had a magnetic personality, loved people, and could engage anyone in conversation. His adventurous spirit was reflected in his hobbies, which included playing cards with friends, fishing, and traveling the world with his wife, Monya Popoff (Korbett), and their lifelong friends.

John’s favorite places where the serene Walker River and the picturesque scenery along the 395 Highway, where he often sought adventure in the great outdoors. He loved riding motorcycles, water skiing, and camping with those he held dear. More than anything, John cherished spending time with his beautiful wife, Monya, their three children—sons John Phillip Popoff and Mark Steven Popoff, and daughter Kimberly Suzann Fuiks—and his three grandchildren, Tom Popoff, Jay Popoff, and Sarah Popoff (Burke), as well as his three great-grandchildren, Mia Popoff, Nate Popoff, and Boedy Burke.

A dedicated community member, John was actively involved in the Molokan Russian Community, serving as President of the Heritage Club.  His positive attitude and zest for life left a lasting impact on everyone he met, making him a beloved figure in the lives of many.

John J. Popoff will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love, adventure, and devotion to people he held close will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
