Obituary

John Jerome Pierini, age 61, retired New York City Transit Authority Supervisor, passed on Friday, March 11, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 15, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Salvatore and Sadie Pierini natives of Italy. John served as a Heating Specialist in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1962. John lived and worked in New Your for 60 years. He held the title of Authority ofr 31 years. A lifetime New Yorker, recently retired to Lake Forest, California in April 2004 with his loving and courageous wife Jeannette E. Pierini.
John played a major role in the search and rescue efforts following the September 11th terrorist attacks. His hard work and spirited dedicated efforts to the victims and their families did not go unrecognized. John was awarded a letter of appreciation and a certificate for his gallant efforts from the city of New York and former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani. He was a member of the Counter Terrorism Team of the NYCTA Post 9/11 until his retirement. He received a tribute from the New York City Police Department on 10/08/02. They acknowledged his hard work and efforts, ?In making New York a safer place?.
At his retirement party his superiors and co=workers presented him with a plaque that read: John Pierini Maintenance Supervisor, February 1973 ? March 2004?.
?We, at NYCT, would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your 31 years of exemplary service. Throughout your career, you performed your duties at a level attained by few. Your leadership and caring attitude toward your men were the reasons you stood out among your peers?.
John was an active member of the Simpson United Methodist Church, Amityville, New Your . After moving to California he became a member of the Calvary Chapel Rancho Santa MargaritaCCRSM and was actively involved in the CCRSM Sound Board and worship Ministry. John was an avid kite flyer and made it known that it was one thing that made him feel close to God.
John is survived by his wife, Jeannette; his daughters Linda La Fleur and Michelle Antonelli; sons John S. Pierini; Michael Pierini; Robert Schavel; Matthew Schavel and his wife Kimberly Schavel; Timothy Schavel and his wife Jennifer Schavel; and seven wonderful loving grandchildren. He is further survived by his loving mother-in-law, Florence Seymour, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, two loving sisters, Lucy Egan and Jean Torchio preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2005 ? 7:00PM at Calvary Chapel Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. Relativeds and friends are welcome to join in an early summer service on Long Island, New York. At this service we will be laying John’s ashes in the Great South Bay

  2. We are so sorry to hear about John’s passing. John was a good and caring person. We will always remember how good he was towards Mom. He was also good to the boys. Whenever he saw them he would always have something for them. He will be missed.
