Obituary
John David McNicol was born on October 17, 1966, the fourth child of Marlene and James McNicol. His father James was an engineer in the aerospace industry and he and his family were living in Bangkok, Thailand where John was born. They also lived in Pennsylvania and Florida during John’s childhood before settling in Southern California. He graduated from Tustin High School and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton. John was the CFO of XcellWave, a technical services provider to the wireless communication industry and the President of Aircraft Information Services, Inc., appraisers of commercial aviation. He was a member of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Traders and a certified ISTAT Appraiser, one of only about 40 in the world. He was well respected in his industry and in all aspects of his life.
John and Elaine were married for over 20 years and have three beautiful children: Ashley, Rachel and Kyle. They created a warm and loving home together for their family, and friends always felt invited. He was a loving and caring husband and father, attending everything in which his children participated. He loved to travel with his family, taking them on many wonderful trips and reveled in the planning and preparation to make each trip perfect.
John passed away on November 13, 2010, after a 7-month battle with Leukemia. He is survived by his wife Elaine; children, Ashley, Rachel and Kyle; mother, Marlene McNicol, sister, Susan Keith Robishaw; brothers, Peter Sheryl McNicol and James Tanya McNicol; six nieces; one nephew; and many more family members and friends who will miss him dearly. His love for his family and friends will be cherished through our countless memories of John.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2:00 pm, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 30522 Via con Dios in Rancho Santa Margarita. It is so hard to sit here and think that such a wonderful man only got 44 years to impact our lives. When I first met John I was so excited, he pulled a quarter out of my ear and I was sold! We’re going to have a Magician in the family, how cool was that?! Broke my heart when my mother told me he wasn’t a Magician. Though my career expectation of John was wrong, there was never a moment that I doubted having him as an Uncle. Elaine, Ashley, Racheal, and Kyle, we send you our love and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. John was a very special man, wonderful husband and father who gave so much to all of us. He will never be forgotten! We love you all so much!

I’ve thought a lot lately of my many memories of Uncle John, and how dearly I love him and Elaine and the kids. I treasure these memories and am thankful I am one of the lucky souls who is better for having known him. All my love to the family…you are in my heart always.
