John Daniel
Barrett
August 3, 1929 – February 8, 2019
Our dear father, John D. Barrett, (89) passed away on Friday, February 8 th . John was born in Ossining New York, to Joseph A. and Adeline (Schnell) Barrett. John graduated from Ossining High School and later married Marguerite (Peggy) and they spent 65 wonderful years together until our mother passed away in 2014. They loved their family and loved to travel. Due to our father’s work with Mobil Oil, they had the opportunity to travel extensively and lived in many different places that included London, Halifax, Nova Scotia, St. John’s Newfoundland, Tokyo and Singapore. They retired to Mission Viejo, CA in 1992.
Retirement did not slow down the travel that he and Peggy so loved. They continued to travel around the country and around the world.
Our parents were long-time volunteers at Mission Hospital. Many will remember Dad’s warm and friendly greeting at the Main Desk when entering the hospital. He and Peggy were quite the team.
As much as John loved traveling the world with Peggy, nothing was more important to them than their family.
John D. Jr. (Barbi) of Palos Verdes, CA, Peter (Katherine) of Washington D.C., Douglas (Jan) of Mission Viejo, CA, and Robert (Jude ) of Pittsburgh, PA; two daughters, Eileen of Mission Viejo and Jacqueline of Santa Maria, CA; nine grandchildren; and 3 great- grandchildren.
There will be a Vigil and Rosary at 10:00 AM at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 26872 Estanciero Dr. Mission Viejo ( www.stkilianmissionviejo.org ) on Wednesday, February 13 th followed immediately by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM. There will be a reception following the Mass in the Church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in John’s memory to the Mission Hospital Foundation for the Light up A Life Program. Online contributions may be made at
