Obituary
Barker, Joanne Carol, 1946 – 2009, a resident of Thousand Oaks and Mission Viejo, passed away from a stroke in the company of her family on March 2, 2009. She went home to be with the Lord, and her husband, Gary P. Barker, who passed on January 21, 2006.
She married the love of her life, Gary P. Barker, on March 21, 1970 and together they enjoyed guiding and nurturing young minds as educators, most recently at Linda Vista Elementary in Mission Viejo. Throughout the years they had a passion for attending Saddleback Church, gardening and traveling together. They always looked forward to their weekly date nights together. Most of all she was devoted to her family, her children and her grandchildren.
Joanne’s enduring faith in the Lord guided the way that she raised her children and supported her family and friends. Her life was truly guided by her faith in Jesus Christ and she was completely devoted to the service and well-being of others.
Joanne will be forever missed by her daughter, Karen Lynn Partridge and her husband, Scott Partridge; and her son, Philip D. Barker and his wife Christine Barker; and grandchildren, Noel Partridge and Savannah and Trevor Benavides.
A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held in Tent 3 at Saddleback Church on Tuesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. Please join us in celebration of our wonderful mom, grandma and friend.
Joanne was very involved in service to her community. Most recently, she was a volunteer at the Grant R. Brimhall Library in Thousand Oaks reading to disabled children.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests plants for a memorial garden or that a book be donated to a local library.
‘Mom, thank you for always being the wind beneath our wings.’
