Joan Madeline Manno, of Aliso Viejo, California left her body on July 4, 2015, of natural causes.

Joan was born in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Madeline Manno. She is survived by her nine children named below and18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Joan was a graduate of Ohio State University and the University of California, Irvine, with undergraduate and master’s degrees in social sciences and law. She excelled as a social worker, legal researcher, real estate broker, shopkeeper, and many other trades.
But Joan’s purpose in life was much greater than her education and professions. Joan was an inspiration to hundreds of people. A deeply spiritual woman, she unselfishly dedicated her life to teaching Christ’s principles through her actions. She embodied Christ’s message of miracles: “These and greater things you shall do.” Joan’s life was a shining example of this message. Like Christ, she healed the sick with her words and her touch. She fed fish and loaves to the hungry, when there was nothing to be found. She loved her enemies, and made friends of them and of their enemies. She taught others to see who we truly are: Spiritual beings having a human experience.
We cannot count the number of lives she touched with her healing wisdom. From raising her own children out of poverty in her youth, to ministering Christ’s message of love from her pulpit in the Seal Beach Angel store, combined with decades of love and service in between, Joan will continue to be an inspiration to anyone whom she touched. Joan was truly a messiah. A teacher. No one we know walking the earth could be closer to Christ.
We all heard her message: Unconditional love. Kindness, without prejudice. Hope. A pointer to the connection to the almighty spirit that is ever-present, yet so elusive to most of us.
If you were to ask Joan what her message was, she’d no doubt say, ‘My life is my message.’ “And It’s Only Temporary.” How many of us can say that? Indeed, her life was her message.

I know you are happy now because you are in heaven which is the place you have always wanted to be. I feel so fortunate to have been able to spend the last 4 months with you. I already miss holding your hand and your wonderful hugs. But I now feel your spirit with me. It happened this morning when I fed the birds. I am happy you are now with Jesus. You are the best mother any son could have and I will try to continue your legacy of Christian help to others. I have always admired your courage by taking the chance and moving from Ohio to California with all of your beautiful children.
