Obituary
Jesus Huerta Martinez
February 18, 1929 – February 8, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and respect that we announce the passing of Jesus Huerta Martinez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and hardworking immigrant, who died peacefully at the age of 95 in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, California, on February 8, 2025.
Jesus was born in Teocaltiche Jalisco, Mexico, on February 18, 1929. Growing up in a humble and hardworking family, he learned the values of perseverance, loyalty, faith from an early age. As a young man, he was part of the Bracero Program which brought him to the U.S. In the early 1950s, Jesus left his small town and embarked on a life-changing journey across the border to California, where he began working in the groves and farms in Orange County.
Jesus’ first years in the U.S. were marked by both struggle and determination. He worked tirelessly in the fields and groves, often in the harshest conditions, but he always dreamed of building a better future for his family. Over the years, Jesus saved his earnings, sent for his young family, and gradually put down roots in San Juan Capistrano. He settled in Orange County, where he worked not only in agriculture but also in various trades, always providing for his family with unwavering dedication.
In 1960, Jesus married Andrea Gonzalez, and together they raised six children, instilling in them the same work ethic and determination he had carried with him from his youth. His love for his family, his faith and community was evident in everything he did. Jesus was known for his generosity, his kindness, and his unwavering belief that hard work could overcome any obstacle.
Jesus spent the latter part of his life surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He witnessed the transformation of his community and the achievements of his family, who continue to carry on his legacy of resilience and perseverance. Though he faced many challenges throughout his life, Jesus always held onto the belief that his efforts paved the way for a brighter future for those who followed him.
Jesus is survived by his beloved wife Andrea, his six children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and who will continue to honor his memory.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to those who supported Jesus throughout his life and to the caregivers who assisted him in his final years. A funeral mass and celebration of his life will be held at Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano in Orange County on February 25, 2025, followed by a burial at Ascension Cemetery Lake Forest, California.
Jesus’ story is one of sacrifice, hard work, and resilience he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
