Jeffrey Benton Magwood was born on August 25, 1967 in Yonkers, New York. He passed away on December 21, 2009 in San Clemente, California. Jeffrey’s parents were Howard Taylor Magwood and Frances Benton Magwood. He is survived by sister Donna Katharine Magwood; uncle James Benton, Sr.; first cousins James Benton, Jr., Carole Ann Benton Mark Vorder Bruegge, Jr., Richard Barbara Magwood, Jeffrey Shaw, Eric Andersen ?Hum?, Kristin Andersen Groh, Catherine Mullally, Susan Andersen; second cousin Carolyn Hoffman; and the Maurin and Ewing stepfamilies by Jeff’s mother, Fran’s marriages.

Jeff attended the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California. He graduated from Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, Orange County, California. He graduated with a B.S. in Economics/Management Information Systems at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.

Jeff grew up around the film business with his Dad, Howard Magwood, and his Rose Magwood Productions commercial advertising and documentary film company of Hollywood, New York, Chicago, London, England and Toronto, Canada. Jeff loved movies, did some work in production and wrote scripts.

We admired Jeff’s great skill and love for the game of football where he played center position at Dana Hills High School and in high school county/state competition. He played football and rugby at Cal Poly State University and afterwards played rugby internationally. After graduation, Jeffrey worked as an English Instructor teaching English as a Second language at Aeon Intercultural Corp. in Kanazawa, Japan and traveled in Southeast Asia. Upon returning to the United States, he worked in business, most recently in a mortgage banking corporation.

Jeffrey is his families? beloved son, brother and hero. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial service will be held at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church in Laguna Beach, California, on January 24 at 11:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made with a check to the Laguna Beach United Methodist Church to be used for a homeless shelter and a children’s wheelchair ministry abroad, charities both close to Jeff’s heart. Please put notation ?Jeffrey Benton Magwood Memorial Fund? on checks.

I am deeply saddened at your loss. Although I did not know Jeffrey, I work with his sister, Donna. Donna spoke fondly of her baby brother. My condolences to the family at such a tragic loss. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Shari Ayon

I knew Jeff during his days at Dana Hills, and have never forgotten the intensity and passion that he brought to the football field. The strength and confidence he held was amazing! Jeff was a role model and a leader. I am sorry to learn of his passing. I am sure he led a courageous life, and I know that those of us from “The Point”, will remember how he inspired us to fight.

  3. I am very sad to hear of Jeff’s passing. I only knew Jeff from hearing Donna talk of her brother. I know how important her family is to her, and to all of the Magwoods. I will be keeping Donna, and all of you in the family and friends who knew Jeff, in my thoughts.

  4. My prayers go to the many friends and their families of who knew Jeff. Donna may you know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  5. We are all so saddened by Jeffrey’s early passing. Susan and I remember him so well as a baby, perhaps 15 months old when we traveled from Los Angeles to Rye, New York and spent the summer with our Magwood family.

Jeffrey was a seeking spirit, kind and good. I recall that he asked questions about life, was intrigued by its mysteries and his own place within it. Jeffrey sought connection and meaning – which for us signals the essential spirit of a person. He was service oriented, through his time in Southeast and years later to our beloved Aunt Connie. Jeffrey will be missed and we love and honor his time here on earth.

To our dear Donna, our hearts are with you. Always.

    Catherine, Susan & Kristin
