Obituary

Cowan, Jeanien Rickett – My daughter, my mother, our sister, and our friend left us to join God in heaven on Monday, October 20, 2008. It was a beautiful day on the Island of Catalina with blue skies – she was with the love of her life, she was with good friends, enjoying music and good spirit! Jeanien Cowan was born on March 25, 1952 to the late Edward Rickett and Lorraine Rickett of Minneapolis, Minnesota. As the oldest girl in a Catholic family of nine, she was the second mother to her siblings and the proud mother of her own daughter, Jennifer Nicole. She married and moved to Billings, Montana where she worked for one of the largest departments store as a buyer allowing her to develop a flare for fashion. She left Montana and moved to California in 1986 and continued her career as a market expert helping small boutiques develop inventory plans. She came from a family with an entrepreneurial spirit that was passed along from her father, which would later help her to develop her own successful business. She met and fell in love with Dr. Charles Cowan in 1999. One of her proudest accomplishments was the merging of these two families. Her favorite time of year was Christmas time when all them would come together. Jeanien and Charles loved to entertain at their home in Laguna Beach spending time with their extended family and friends. For those of us who knew and loved Jeanien, we share endless memories of her ability to unite her family with laughter, advice, and endless courses of mealtime celebrations. Words cannot describe our sense of loss, but we find comfort in the fact that Jeanien and Charles are together in heaven. She is survived by her mother, Lorraine Jordan Rickett of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; her grandson Carter Buck; her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Brian Buck of Austin, Texas; step children Sherry and John Hanover and Bill and Supranee Cowan; grandchildren Jacob and Sydney Hanover. Her siblings: Glen and Sandra Rickett of Billings, Montana; Steven Rickett of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Gary and Becky Rickett of Tujunga, California; Ed and Delores Rickett of Cambridge, Minnesota; Cyndi and Gene Brookhart of Temecula, California; Shawn, Dan and Paula Rickett of Minnetonka, Minnesota; Laurie and Ron Bruneau of Fullerton, California; and eight nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Women’s Rape and Crisis Center of Orange County with whom she volunteered for many years. The family will accept calls during a memorial to celebrate the lives of Jeanien and Charles Cowan on Sunday, October 26th at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hill, California between the hours of 7 and 9pm. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 27th at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Laguna Beach at 11am.
