Obituary

Jean Margaret Whalen
December 10, 1924 – May 22, 2018

Jean passed away peacefully at age of 93 at her home with her daughters by her side.

Jean was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan where her foundational years were in Northern Michigan.  She moved to Detroit Michigan where she fell in love and married Francis Austin Whalen in 1954.  They were married 47 years before his death in 2001.

Jean returned to college in her 50’s to obtain her nursing degree.  She spread her kindness and grace with her colleagues and mothers and babies on the maternity ward until her retirement at age 70.

Jean also lived in Oregon, Colorado and Washington.  During her last years she was able to spend time living with her daughters.  Jean is survived by her daughters Sharon, Sheila and Megan.

Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, watching sports, her faith, and using her hands for creative projects.

Jean’s life was about kindness, compassion, caring, spirituality, humor and she had a quick wit.  She will be greatly missed.

The sweetest, gentle spirit is how I see this beautiful woman. She had a twinkle in her eyes so you knew she had a giggle behind her thoughts. She was a caring and kind person who never had I heard a negative word come out of her mouth. You made an impact on so many lives and you will be greatly missed until we meet again in the Lord’s presence. Hope you enjoy the mansion He has prepared for you! Austin must have been overjoyed as he greeted you. Sending love from the depth of my heart!
