Obituary
Jean Elaine Dignan, a loving mother and grandmother with a passion for adventure, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 80. Jean was known for her warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit that touched everyone she met.
Jean is survived by her two children, Tom Dignan, IV (Michele) and Erin Mazzone (Jim). She was also the proud grandmother (Grammy/Mimi) to four grandchildren, Erica, TJ, Austin, and Skyler who brought so much joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas J. Dignan, III.
Born on October 29, 1944, in Maquoketa, Iowa, Jean graduated from Maquoketa High School as valedictorian of her class (1963) and graduated from Mount Mercy College with a Bachelor of Science in medical technology. She moved to California with her husband in 1969. While raising her children, Jean worked as a laboratory Medical Technologist and pursued writing opportunities. She was active in the church, singing in the church choir and helping at CCD.
A passionate traveler, Jean had an insatiable curiosity and love for adventure. Whether it was relaxing by the ocean, visiting friends and family, or exploring new destinations, she was always planning her next trip. Some of her biggest adventures began after she purchased an RV – traveling to Canada, Mexico, and almost every state west of the Mississippi, including Alaska.
Jean was an enthusiastic fan of Angels baseball, always cheering with unwavering dedication. She also enjoyed spending time sailing with friends and on the golf course, though she never quite perfected her swing.
Her humor was contagious, and her quick wit and character brought smiles to so many. Jean was undaunted in the toughest of times with a stubbornness that propelled her to always seize the moment. She will be remembered for her kindness, her spirited personality (dance like no one’s watching!), her courage, and her ability to brighten any moment.
Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and joy will continue to bless those who were fortunate enough to have shared in her life.

“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains”
Jean, you were such a light to all you met – your laughter, sparkle, zest for life, and living it to the fullest! I remember you having me drive your camper down to Mexico to visit the orphanage with you as shotgun singing Christmas carols all along the way! Vegas trips, 4th of July at your beach house, parties, and our initial meeting St. Nicholas church.
Your light will never fade and you have made on impact on so many – including myself, that brings a smile to my face when I think of you and remember you with love and so much joy. Rest in God’s heavenly kingdom, reunited with your dear Tom, and know you will be remember for always. God bless you, my friend.
