IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jason Edman
Portillo
February 9, 1975 – February 6, 2026
In Loving Memory of Jason Edman Portillo
Jason was born on February 9, 1975, in Panorama City, California to Fred and Karen Portillo. He attended El Dorado High School in Placentia, California. He spent 12 years living in North Carolina where he built a life centered around love, laughter, music, and family before eventually settling in Fallbrook, California.
Jason shared a beautiful love story with his wife, Denise Hagin-Portillo, whom he met while working at Trader Joe’s in 2002. Trader Joe’s wasn’t just his workplace for over 20 years — it was where he built lifelong friendships and met the love of his life.
He was a proud and loving father to Stephanie Hagin; Ashley Lewis; Kimberly Hagin; and Joshua Hagin. His family was his greatest joy and the center of his world.
Jason loved music — especially punk and metal — and rarely passed up a chance to attend a concert. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life: drinking a good beer, playing disc golf, traveling, and catching a baseball game. He lived fully, laughed loudly, and made every experience memorable.
Everyone who knew Jason says the same thing: he was the kindest person they had ever met. He was goofy in the best way, quick with a joke, and always ready to help anyone in need. He would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. His warmth, generosity, and genuine heart left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jason’s legacy is one of love, laughter, music, and unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Hagin-Portillo; his children, Stephanie (Destiny) Hagin, Ashley (Richie) Lewis, Kimberly (Tony) Hagin, and Joshua (Cynthia) Hagin; his parents, Fred and Karen Portillo; his sister, Tristan; and many extended family members and friends.
Services will be held on February 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, California.
