JANICE DELORIS HODGES
MAY 7, 1944 – JULY 20, 2023

Janice Deloris Hodges passed away from sudden heart failure on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Hoag Hospital, Irvine, California after being rushed there by ambulance.  Janice (Jan) was predeceased in death by her father, Ross Sidles, her mother, Evelyn Sidles, and her brother, Ken Sidles.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Hodges, her two children, Jason and Lissa, her two stepdaughters, Tracy and Cindy, her grandchildren, Jade Murphy, Jack Murphy, Kolby Hodges and Emily Hodges and her five step-grandchildren, Kieran Allen, Maggie Allen, Brenna (Bee) Allen, Nick White and Jesse White.  Jan is also survived by her brother, Dwayne Sidles and her sister, Roxy VonEhwegen.  Jan and Ken were married on December 9, 1978.

Jan was born on May 7, 1944, in Estherville, Iowa to Ross and Evelyn (Beilharz) Sidles.  Jan grew up on several farms in Emmet County and graduated from Terril High School in 1962.  While in high school, she loved basketball and set an Iowa State record for the most points scored in a women’s basketball game at that time.

Jan had a career of forty years in publishing as a commercial artist.  She was Art Director at Berkley and Company in Spirit Lake, Iowa for many years and then moved to California in 1977.  Shortly after that, she became Art Director of Executive Publications and enjoyed working there for many years until she retired.  After retiring from Executive Publications, she and her best friend, Darla started their own advertising business and enjoyed working together for many years.  Jan retired in 2006 and then took up sculpting.  She was an accomplished sculptor and loved sculpting polar bears.  This was her passion.

Jan was a deeply committed Christian and loved reading the word of God and sharing her faith with others, especially her grandchildren.

Jan was an amazing wife and mother and enjoyed watching her children grow up.  Her sacrifices were endless, and she would do anything for her family.  She made sure her children were taught the love of Jesus Christ.

Her love of Jesus was very important to her and helped her get through the darkest days of suffering for many years before her passing.  She had a firm testimony of God’s love for us and always mentioned how she felt God’s grace gave her strength.  She is no longer in pain and is with the Lord.

Please join us in celebrating Jan’s life on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Living Word Church located at 17101 Armstrong Ave., # 103, Irvine, CA 92614.

Jan’s favorite Bible verse is from the Book of Isiah:

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God,
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My
Righteous right hand.”        Isiah 41:10
