Obituary

Janet Lee Jurgemeyer passed away Sept 17, 2011 at her home in Mission Viejo, CA in the arms of her husband, Gary, after a year-long battle with advanced stage ovarian cancer.

Jan was born in Loveland, CO to Lloyd & Dorothy Allen in 1943. She attended Douglas County HS in Castle Rock, CO and later, graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley with a degree in History. In 1966, she moved to California with her husband and began her career in teaching after accepting a position at Santiago HS in Garden Grove. Jan joined the faculty at Mission Viejo HS in 1971 and remained there until her retirement in 2003. Jan touched thousands of lives throughout her 33-year tenure as a teacher, coach, and career counselor and a lifetime of dedicated community service. She took tremendous joy in helping shape the lives of so many students. As a testimony to her faith in God and resilience, most people never knew about the battle that raged within her body because of her positive attitude, cheerful demeanor, and busy social calendar.

Jan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gary, three children, three grandchildren, two brothers, and countless friends who will miss her dearly.

A viewing is scheduled for Sept 22 from 7:00-9:00 PM at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy Laguna Hills, CA. A funeral service will be held on Sept 23 1:00 PM at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church 23262 El Toro Road, Lake Forest, CA. Memorial contributions on her behalf can be made to:
