Obituary
On July 22, 2023, three weeks after her 91st birthday, Jane Wong passed away peacefully to reunite with her husband, Po-Ping, and eldest son, Ming, in the house of our Lord. A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, affectionate daughter, caring sister, and faithful friend, Jane spent her life focused on the welfare and needs of others. Born on July 3, 1932 in Shanghai, China, Jane was the fifth of eight children and only daughter to Wen-Lung and Fung-Siu Hsieh. Surrounded by seven loving and protective brothers, Jane grew up as a self-described tom-boy and athlete and never lacked for attention and companionship. At the tender age of 18, Jane took a month long journey on a freighter from Hong Kong to San Francisco, and then continued on to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to attend college. Jane later travelled to Los Angeles to rejoin her mother and brothers and finish college. While hostessing at a local Chinese restaurant, Jane, age 23, caught the eye of her future husband Po-Ping, and they married in 1956. For the next 67 years, Jane devoted her life to Po-Ping and her family, helping to raise three sons and supporting her husband at home and at his dental office. In between her homemaker duties, Jane supported the local Lions Club, was a member of an Asian Women’s philanthropic club, and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. After Po-Ping passed away, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Jeannie Wong. During the summer months, Jane sought cooler weather visiting her son Andre and his family in Northern California, and offering her babysitting services.
She’ll forever be remembered for her radiant smile, kind and gentle heart, sense for modern fashion—leopard prints being her trademark, and unlimited generosity with her love and time. Always thoughtful and compassionate, Jane lived selflessly, ready to help others, whether it was cooking delicious Chinese meals, looking after a loved one, or just lending a receptive ear.
During the last few years, Jane showed tremendous strength and resilience as she battled debilitating health issues. In spite of her health related limitations, she always sought opportunities to help around the house, whether it was cutting vegetables, setting the table, or unloading the dishwasher. She cherished her time with her family members and friends who visited her, enjoyed watching reality shows and tennis on TV, and looked forward to phone calls with her brothers. She loved to take people out for meals. Jane was an avid mahjong player whose innocent and angelic countenance belied a ruthless and unrelenting will to win. Jane will forever be missed by many, but her legacy and memories will carry on through the many lives she touched.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Dr. Po-Ping Wong and eldest son, Ming Wong. She will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in law, Dr. Ted and Jeannie Wong, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Andre and Minghua Wong, daughter-in-law Therese Wong, grandchildren Adam Wong (Erica), Kiali Orlowski (Aaron), Remington Wong (Liza), Jameson Wong, Kina Wong, Kristen Wong, Hana Wong, her four great-grandchildren, Asher, Micah, Gideon, and Joelle, and her constant companion, Kona, the family dog.
Interment will be held privately for her immediate family at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Dr, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625.
