James J. Zaccaro's Obituary

James J. ?Zac? Zaccaro, 88, of Lake Forest, died on October 18, 2004 after suffering a severe head injury that resulted from a fall. He was a textbook example of ?America's Greatest Generation.? Zac was born in San Bernardino, California on February 17, 1916. On June 11, 1938, he was married to Gertrude Rose Diebling. After serving in the South Pacific during WWII, he received an Honorable discharge from the Army in 1946. In 1950, he and Gert proudly purchased their first home in Norwalk, California. He lived in the same house for more than 50 years. He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company, where he had worked for more than 42 years. His career included promotions from factory Helper to Apprentice to Journeyman Machinist. Zac had three passions during his life, his family, golf and baseball. He played golf for more than 70 years. He made custom golf clubs as a hobby. Throughout his life, he was a fine athlete. In his youth, he played semi-pro baseball. After Gert died in 1977, he never remarried. He is survived by two sons, their wives, Jim Anne, Rick Sheri, and five grandsons, Jonathan, Tony, Michael, Greg and Jeff. He was a wonderful, generous human being and he will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held at O'Connor Laguna Hills Mortuary on Wednesday the 27th of October at 1:00pm.
